We visited here a couple of times during a ten day stay in Montreal but it is quite expensive (for two one course main meals including one alcoholic drink each costed $62 and $70 June/July 2022). I had a very nice Duck Risotto on my first visit and a burger on my second visit both times with a beer. The restaurant was very busy but we were served quickly by friendly staff and our meals were tasty. The restaurant is l... View all feedback.
What K St H doesn't like about Universel Déjeuners et Grillades:
It was my first time visiting this establishment. The place had a nice ambiance. We were seated right away and our server came shortly after. We ordered chicken tenders and pizza for the kids and the Montreal Poutine and a Sandwich Routine baguette with a Cesar salad as a side, for Drinks a Mojito and 4 waters. The Mojito was awful!! Sent it back and got an IPA instead. Food was awful. No one finished their meal beca... View all feedback.
I 'm completely taken with this enchanting brunch haven. The staff 's warm reception and service consistently create a delightful atmosphere for my visits. Universel is undoubtedly my go-to gathering spot, perfect for those seeking sumptuous breakfast and lunch options that cater to all preferences. The restaurant strikes a harmonious chord, offering classic brunch dishes without unnecessary extravagance, all while keeping prices pleasingly reasonable. One particular highlight is their skillfully prepared crispy potatoes, a definite must of the whole breakfast seasoned to perfection that never fail to impress me. The addition of fresh fruits adds a wholesome touch as well. While the brunch selection truly is exceptional, it 's important to note that the lunch menu comes with a slightly higher price point. However, considering the top-notch quality, diverse offerings, and inviting ambiance, I think it 's quite acceptable to indulge a bit every once in a while. All in all, Universel offers a diverse brunch menu, making it a definite recommendation for anyone seeking both comfort and indulging brunch experience!
This is a pretty good solid breakfast joint, stick to the eggs benedict of any type, the poutine is okay. Full bar plenty of wine, coffee and other drinks. If you enjoy good food and travel videos please visit cuisineQuest on YouTube!
GO to the other Universel if you are considering visiting My experience here was not great. Maybe because of staffing changes from before, the food and service was below average. Food: If people wanted to try poutine here, I wouldn’t recommend. The poutine was salty, and the cheese curds didn’t melt, with the gravy luck warm. I would rather go to any other chain. The server told me they serve their poutine like this. If so, then all the more not to visit here. Service: Walking in, I wasn’t seated until the manager talked to the hosts. They initially saw me waiting and went back to chatting with their friends for another several minutes. The restaurant only had a dozen people. Maybe they don’t get paid enough to care. I usually go to the Universel across by Montagne. But, heck, I thought it was worth visiting again since I was closer today.
Solid place for all-day dining and drinks, from Egg Benedict to Aperol Fritz. Comfortable indoor and outside seating. Casual, fresh and clean right in the busy pedestrian street. Fast and friendly services. Good prices.
We sat outside on a warm late morning and had a very good breakfast. I liked how we were warned about the wasps beforehand, but they are everywhere this summer so it is what it is.Overall one of the best values for breakfast that we found on our trip. Two orders of eggs, meat, potatoes, toast and coffee along with a substantial kids meal was less than $40!Food was tasty, coffee was delicious and the service was top notch. Can't wait to come back again on our next visit up the 401 to Montreal.Kid-friendliness: Great kids options and very well priced.
