What User doesn't like about Il Galateo:
Just good, no more. squid fried without too much taste, and with shrimp sauce instead of a good sooli. and calf "vitello poliniac" cream, mushrooms and cognac. Do you think there was no more cognac left? But not extra. View all feedback.
We were 12 and had not been there for years . Same staff and very interesting menu. But only one server for all of us and it was well over one hour before our meals arrived. My minestrone soup was superb and the chicken cacciatore was fall off the bones sweet and delicious. All the meals were well received. Tiramisu and Creme caramel desserts were really excellent. Parking on the street .
We were a party of 16 looking for a place to dine on a Monday in Montreal. Hard to find but the attentive staff at Il Galateo suggested that Gino would call me back with some suggestions. Gino is the owner and indeed called back and suggested that he open the restaurant for us. We accepted. The welcome was warm and professional. The tables were set out so that we could all see each other and share in the conversation. The evening table d’hôte menu had sometime to please everyone; from great traditional Italian trattoria favorites to some special seafood offerings. The menu pleased and impressed 16 people with variety, freshness and well crafted fare. Gino and staff provided attentive and professional service. Gino suggested excellent wines to accompany all dishes and satisfied even the sommelier in the group. Dessert offerings were good Italian favorites and again pleased all in the group. The ambiance is comfortable, welcoming and spacious. An outstanding experience!
It is a cozy neighborhood restaurant with consistently good food. It changed owners a year ago and updated the restaurant a bit since then. The dishes and service are always good and it is a great value for the price. The tiramisu for dessert is excellent.
The wait staff was personable and we had a good time. My pasta primavera used a frozen vegetable mix (carrots, etc. which was disappointing for the price. Portions are not large but enough. Some others in my group enjoyed the spaghetti bolognese.
We went for a quiet dinner on a cold and uninviting evening. The welcome was great and although not very full ,we could hear ourselves speak,which is not possible in most places
