We visited Au Pain Perdu on rue de la Roche on a Wednesday noontime in late September. The restaurant was not full and we were seated quickly. We were warmly welcomed by the staff. We ordered two omelettes: one off the menu — the Campagnarde (a vegetarian option with mushrooms, peppers, red onions, spinach and cheddar cheese) — and the other being the omelette of the day. Both are served with potatoes, a choice of br... View all feedback.
What Voyage familial doesn't like about Restaurant Au Pain Perdu:
Omelet was greasy, hard to digest. Luke warm coffee at $2.50 extra. other breakfast places includes coffee. Crystallized packet sugar.... brown and white. Absent “ run around “ service. Crepe not bad but over soaked in syrup. GREASY AND DIRTY floor at 11 am. Squeaky rocky table. Not worth the time nor money. Neither the food nor the decor nor the service were up to standard. Or we arrived on a REALLY bad day? View all feedback.
We discovered the place by chance and were very pleased with our breakfast and with the atmosphere. Staff was very friendly. We came back another time, same experience. The menu offers a variety of stuff. Everything fresh, and orders were delivered very fast.
We enjoyed a beautiful brunch and great service at Au Pain Perdu on a rainy fall morning. The ambience is welcoming and cosy, and the service was very good. The menu is large I think there is something there for everyone certainly it was difficult for us to choose. We were both very happy with our selections, which were delicious, beautifully presented, and generous portions. We found the prices reasonable. We're very happy to have found this restaurant so close to our favourite hotel and we'll certainly go back the next time we’re in Montreal.
Au Pain Perdu is a pretty reliable place for brunch. It will never reach the height of the better ones but it is an honest attempt at brunch. For a while, it was better than average but I think they might have changed cooks because it slightly went down last few years, still a very good place, don’t expect a show stopper. I went for the breakfast poutine, a very heavy dish indeed but flavours were pretty good. Usually the dishes themselves are pretty good, it’s the “supporting roles” that tend to fall flat : the coffee is well below average, does not taste good, I don’t understand why they try to be cheap here, it tastes like 90s coffee. Potatoes which appear as a side on every plate are also disappointing (buy Russets and season them). If they fixed these 2 things, the ratings would go up accordingly. Better than La Grotte (now closed) or L’oeufrier further down the street, very similar to Cora.
I came here for brunch and the food was amazing. The staff was very nice and hospitable. I did not have a reservation, just walked in around 11 am and did not have to wait long to be seated. I would absolutely come here again.
