It was the first time to eat here. It was highly recommended. Because it is in Chinatown, parking is difficult, but it is worth it. The restaurant is small and the service can be slow but patient. It's worth waiting. We ordered soup dumplings with shrimps. OMG. Wow. We have a sequence of cooked dumplings with shrimp, pork and corn. I've never had such good dumplings. This place is a must. What Адам Лисенко doesn't like about Mai Xiang Yuan:
We went in at 9pm on a Friday, got seated immediately. We chose this place as it was listed one of the top places to get dumplings in Chinatown on MTL blog, although our experience here did not match our expectations. The place is cash only, there’s an ATM machine right outside in case you don’t carry cash.We got the pork, shrimp and chives fried dumplings, the dumplings were a little burnt and they were bland as wel... The best dumplings ever in Montreal! The staff is so nice and friendly there I always order their delicious pig dumplings, cattle dumpling lamb blade. her place is so beautiful I recommend tasting her tea. I recommend Mai Xiang Yuan for dumplings here in Montreal! I always come for more!!!!
Homemade dumpling, good quality. Typical China town vibe, not super new and clean. Food serve fast. The dough slightly thicker than some of other place. The steam one is very juicy. The boiled one surprisingly good, too. This place is CASH only so please prepare.
We ordered pork with cilantro dumplings and they were so good. They only take cash, but they have an ATM in the place. I wish they accept cards like most places do in the area. Most ATMs will charge you a fee for international withdrawal. Otherwise I would give them a 5 star.
Montréal is popular for dumplings! I suspect due to its geography, northern Chinese cuisine gained popularity in Chinatown. Mai Xiang Yuan is one spot. It resembles a hole-in-the-wall on street side, but its dumpling logo is can’t-miss. We tried a plate of 15 steamed dumplings (lamb cilantro), along with a platter of 15 fried dumplings (pork, cilantro shrimp). The plump steamed dumplings were flavourful with lamb juice, even before dipping in vinegar soy sauce. The thick handmade wrappers were just ideal for such traditional dumplings. The fried dumplings were served with a crispy bottom layer, and included decent amount of pork shrimp. However, the latter was a bit greasy so we left stuffed. Dumpling portions were quite large at reasonable prices. Note the store is cash only, but provides an ATM at the entrance if you’re short on cash. Staff were sure to inform guests this was a no-cash no-service establishment!
Xiao Long Bao is amazing. This place is amazing. If I had such a restaurant in Ottawa, I'd be sure to go once a month. I enjoyed my meal. A must try.
