The people working are genuinely friendly and exuded warmth. You can get great fresh cooked croissant and breakfast foods anywhere in the city but you can't always get them with a smile. You can tell the cafe is family owned. They don't rush you, they explain all the options, and they are happy to accommodate any requests. Easy in/out if you just want to pick up coffee, etc., and nice place to sit and relax with your coffee and newspaper.
I have gone to Mad a few times a month since it opened as I live nearby. The food is really good, the people are friendly and they have the potential to be great. The problem is everything is $0.75 - $2.00 overpriced. I know it doesn't seem like a lot but it adds up. I would probably go there every morning and for more afternoon coffees if they would reduce their prices a bit. I have spoken to other people who live in my building and we all feel the same way. Other than that, it's a great little cafe.
When you enter the restaurant, you will immediately be greeted by the scent of freshly baked bagels, evoking nostalgic memories of happy childhoods. Just me? Okay.
I was amazed by how quickly this restaurant churns out fresh bagels. I grabbed a sesame bagel straight from the oven.
I love bagels, and during the Mile End food tour in Montreal, they claimed that the bagels there are even better than those in NYC. As a fairly new resident of NYC, I was excited to try them out.
