Le Resident Restaurant - Montréal

OMG you guys, I can't vouch for their dinners, but this is now my favorite spot for brunch.

We live nearby and were not fans of the previous restaurant at this location, "Le Billot," so coming across this new place was a pleasant surprise.

Remarkable food that equals the best restaurants on Duluth( there are only 2 by the way that are excellent). You can't bring your own wine so it's not as busy. French food with excellent presentation and service. The terrasse is wonderful. Highly recommended. We were a group and we know food. This is a good restaurant. If someone says something about the onion soup or the shrimps or the salmon, it's because they don't know good food. The veal liver was rated 9.9 by a lady that has eaten it for 60 years regularly. Service was ok.Location was ok.Food was absolutely disgusting.Order of appetizers1. Onion soup. I took a look at it and felt revolted. A layer of orange fat was covering the soup and it stinked of boiled beef fat. The layer of cheese , that seamed to be grated mozzarella was minimum and the crouton under the cheese was partially charred. The onion were pale and translucent, no sign of any caramelization to be found. Took half a spoon of the soup (for the benefit of the doubt) and felt the grease coat my palate...I wanted to vomit. Obviously didn't have the soup and just left it on the corner of the table as far away as possible because the odour was very displeasing.2 Calamari: Very small, very chewy. Chunks of burnt batter mixed into the calamari. Complete disaster. 3. Sesame coated fried shrimps ( to replace the onion soup:) dry, chewy and bland. The curry sauce that came with it was ok, nothing special.Main courseLobster risotto: Over cooked and filled with plenty of celery and an overwhelming chorizo. A few pieces of lobster here and there that were insipid.Overall Terrible food please do not waist your money or time or calories eating at this restaurant that I hope closes as soon as possible because its dangerously repugnant.

So, we were walking around the area looking for some nice place for lunch - first time and first day in Montreal and we just happened to stumble into this restaurant, attracted by the nice offer of lunch menus for 15.$ And it turned out to be such a great choice! Choosing between either the soup or entrée of the day (onion soup / escargots) and afterwards at least 8 or 9 different dishes, we ended up with mushroom risotto, pasta with crevettes (shrimps)? And frites moules. The onion soup was great, beautifully served and really filling. The main courses were so delicious, with fresh ingredients and a great flavor; not only mushrooms but also other vegetables in the risotto with a nice and tasty topping of fresh greens. The pasta was light and tasted great, too. And the frites moules were simply awesome, great fries and such a delicious marinade for the mussels. Portion size was more than enough but we simply couldn't leave anything. Afterwards you had a choice of coffee or tea and we got our coffee iced and really tasty as well. The service was so nice and charming and, fortunately, didn't laugh about our attempts to speak French - His own English being way way better. Very funny, friendly and attentive. The bill says served by rony, so compliments to you. What else to say. We didn't check out the prices on the main menu, but the place is so worth a visit with a great atmosphere, wonderful and fresh food and great staff, so definitely go there and check it out!
