I was overwhelmed with great sadness when I discovered that Haru Hana has permanently closed my favorite chatsudon place. I was looking for a delicious Katsudon now. Enter Japote! Hidden in the underground food court of a Scotiabank building on Floor C in the basement of the Centre Mont Royal. It was Cash Only there is a cash machine at the top of the bank. Delicious, fresh and extremely affordable. I ate for $10. Make sure to bring cash and come early because it can get quite busy and because it’s opened for very limited hours.Kid-friendliness: It’s in a food court
The food is exceptional, especially for the price point. The service is great. The portions are small by American standards and probably better aligned with the norm in Japan (which makes perfect sense).
Delicious, affordable, and sure to put a smile on your face. I got the #3 medium and it was a perfect size and so tasty! The two owners were so happy and their smiles were infectious. I loved their selection of sauces you can add, and would also recommend getting a croquette on the side. Would absolutely recommend if you are in the area, make sure to bring cash.
Charming spot for warm and cheap lunch. Amazing and nostalgic flavors. Closes early so get your food before too late!Edit: They only take physical cash, make sure to grab a 20$ at an ATM nearby
Montreal has a lot of hidden gem spots, but this is my favourite. Simple, cheap, and AUTHENTIC Japanese food. The quality you get for the price you pay is simply unheard of nowadays. A great spot to stop for a quick lunch if you are in the area. Wish it was open in the evening though.
