G.A. Deli - Montréal

This place has been around for a long time. Its Greek run and has great lunch deals. I love the smoke meat special. Lots of varied characters here and they have a small section for beers and slots.

This is not a CHAIN delicatessen. This deli recently changed cook, and boy he has made delicious changes to the homemade soups they serve, the Friday pea soup is as always very good, and during the week they serve this vegetable soup that reminds you of what your granny or mom would serve, has cabbage and other vegetables in it and it just feels good. The pizzas be it vegetarian or the Tom's special taste the same but everyone at the table noticed that the crust was tasting umm,! not as burnt as it would appear from time to time, question of cook watching out more often now !! The service staff has been reduced slightly but the crew still works hard and at noon, service is quick and most efficient. Way better than the chain upstairs.

Ok, first off this is a deli, so the interior décor is not chrome and brass, so if that's what your looking for, go somewhere else. St Catherine Street has deli restaurants that charge way more, have lots of staff to handle your order but that chrome and brass comes at a price: One waiter who comes to see if you want a drink, then another comes to take your order and someone to give you bread, someone to give you water ! Then when order is placed, what's going on with my order !!! two people to assemble the plate ( one is slicing the smoked meat, then it’s sent over to another person who puts the French fries on it ! Fresh custom made deli submarine style sandwiches on fresh baked bread...served up quickly...(probably in between metro trains)...simple, good value fare..with a great special sauce...for a quick grab and go, going to or coming from the Atwater Metro. The area has been recently renovated so it's well lit and clean..I garb one once a week.

G.A is tucked away in the basement of Alexis Nihon Plaza - you have to know it's there. The waitresses have mostly been there forever - they know all their regulars' names, and they're professionals. The food is pretty diverse - they have amazing brochettes, homemade pizzas, smoked meat, omelettes, super homemade soups, and daily specials that'll bring you right back in time. My father goes there for the roast pork special as often as he can - truly old-fashioned home cooking. As a vegetarian, I normally stick to a mushroom pizza or soup
