We were eating in this restaurant on Tuesday night. The food was tasty, especially tacos and nachos (which are different from what we usually know but delicious.) the guacamole is also worth being taken with the aperitif. We also ordered two cocktails that were good. the atmosphere was displeasant and the decor of the restaurant is worth a visit. the service was very kind and the server advised us on the map. an addr... What User doesn't like about Escondite:
Was in Montreal for a quick conference trip and stopped here for dinner. I had the pollos hermanos and baja tacos. I preferred the baja tacos even though both were decent. The chicken was spicier than I would have preferred. Not a lot of protein in the tacos, mostly veggies. They taste good but weren't life changing. My mojito was pretty tasty. View all feedback.
Amazing food, every plate we took was fantastic. The noise level is energetic, but it is a great restaurant. Drinks were original and authentic. Tacos were both traditional and with very innovative options. Great place.
Food here was great but nothing better tham the service the staff is upstanding Tara You Rock... keep up the hard work guys... Your Friends From Boston Massachusetts.
I really had an unpleasant service. Our server was very unpleasant. He reminded us over and over again that we had a two hour service when we were only 1hr into it. He kept rushing us even was a lot of availability around. He brought us our bill while we were eating our main. Did not ask us if you or anything else, and was hovering over me when I was entering his tip. there was a table next to us with the same amount of people which is just 2 and they had a different waiter/waitress and she was not rushing them even after their main was done and they didn’t have anything but water for 30min. We left with 40min to spare on our table.FOOD:Portions were small, food came very fast and soggy. We ordered a variety of different tacos that they decided to put on one plate and when they dropped it on our table they didn’t even explain which was which. Not fun when it’s a bit dark in the resto and everything is covered in the same garnishes.I will not be going back to this location.
The most disappointing part of our visit was the lack of courtesy from the wait staff, who seemed uninterested in serving us. When we asked if there were any child-friendly options available, we were told, “Um, yeah … so we don’t cater to kids.” This unfriendly and dismissive attitude was unexpected, especially given the empty restaurant. It felt like the staff was relieved when we left because we had kids with us, even though they were 11 and 13—not crying babies or toddlers. We had hoped to have a relaxed evening with tapas and tacos, but ended up going to The Keg later on with no issues. While we have always had a great experience at the Old Montreal location, our visit to the Union location has left a negative impression of The Hideaway overall. It’s understandable that each restaurant has its own atmosphere, but a 5:30 PM dinner reservation should not feel unwelcoming, especially on an empty patio. This experience has made it unlikely that we will return to any Escondite location soon. Hopefully, the management will make improvements to create a more welcoming environment for all customers. Kid-friendliness: Apparently, NO KIDS EVER?
