I have been living in Montreal for more than 30 years, and I discovered this place only a year ago! The food is OK, but the surrounding.! Who would have thought that you could eat in a city, such as Montreal,on a terrace "by the falls"! After (or before) your meal, make sure to go for a little stroll around the Bistro. The whole area is very picturesque! View all feedback.
What Cleo Block doesn't like about Bistro des Moulins:
The place is great, nice place to relax and enjoy the nature. But, if you go there for a nice meal, you will for sure be disappointed. Food is just ok, no more. I receive my cesar salad, and they forgot to put the dressing in it! And service must be the worst you will ever experience. But, they are nice, that I have to say. Just not professional in the restauration business.I'll go back for the spot, but not the expe... View all feedback.

I came here expecting a pleasant afternoon dining experience, but all I got was terrible service. I brought some out of town guests with me and after being seated we proceeded to order. After not seeing our waiter for at least 15 minutes, we had to finally ask for some bread. Other people who arrived long after us, ordered their food, were served and left before our meal even arrived. From the time we were seated until we started our meal, at least one hour had passed. We basically never saw our waiter. 4 people in our party ordered Caesar salads. How does it take an hour to make a salad? The chicken on the salads were very dry. Another thing that was frustrating was that the food was delivered at different intervals. When we finally got our food, we thought it would be a good idea to ask for the cheque as we had no idea when we would see our waiter again. When he did come back we got our cheque and someone else's as well. I asked him if I had a choice as to which bill I could take. He never apologized, just took the other people's bill away. I was going to give the waiter a little tip, but changed my mind after thinking about it. After such a horrible lunch, I paid the bill without leaving a tip. Afterwards while I was waiting as my kids and nieces were walking around the site, the waiter came out and reminded me of the amount of my bill, as if to let me know that there was no tip. I apologized and told him what I thought of the service. He then blamed the kitchen for everything. What I don't understand is why nothing was said during the meal. If there was a problem, then why didn't he bring it up then and apologized for any delay's. I have been to ile de la visitation a few times and have always enjoyed walking around the site. I just would never eat here again.
Late lunch at this bistro which is an old mill from the 18th century. Only outdoor seating on a beautiful terrace, on a sunny day with large parasol to protect from the sun. The bistro is above a river and the sound of the waterfall transport you to the country far from the madding crowd. Oignon soup as a starter was homemade, delicious. I had a steak tartare which was very well prepared. When I order my dessert, a tarte with Calvados, the chef came out to flambé the Calvados and serve me. That is how I learned that he is French and he is the owner of the restaurant. I was not surprised cause his meals have a french touch. I recommend this restaurant that opens only in the summer on sunny days. Closed on rainy days. The setting is beautiful and it is worth a visit.
This quaint restaurant located near the water had slow service and food that was disappointing. The servers were friendly but not very efficient. The gazpacho tasted like Campbell's soup and the mushroom feuilleté was not good, with the pastry not crunchy and the mushrooms undercooked. The best part of the meal was the side salad and bread with butter. This place is better suited for a casual beer and olive snack after a bike ride, rather than a full dinner option. I will not be returning, as even Mike's restaurants have better food in comparison.
I've been here with friends a couple times and the visits were memorable. Seating is outside where you can see the stone surrounding the mill stream, and the selection of food and drink was wonderful. If you go there, do it when you have time to look around not only the old mill but the park along the river. It's a part of Montreal that many people don't find, but there are beautiful walking/biking paths all over.
