Living in the Alentejo one gets used to eating very cheaply. This restaurant is not in that category but I would recommend it very highly. A very good choice of superbly cooked food and thankfully for us, not to easy to find. View all feedback.
What Fernando Carvalho doesn't like about Adega do Monte Velho:
Based on the previous reviews, I had developed expectations that were not met. My female table server was as friendly as an iceberg, almost rude. I almost went out, but traveled with 1.5 hours for this lunch I decided to stay. The quality of food was average for the region, and on the expensive side. I would have had the same meal in Lisbon for 20% less. Uploading more than 1 euro for two halves of a bread disc is ex... View all feedback.
We had lunch here. The food was decent and the restaurant looks good and well maintained. But the experience was ruined by the unfriendly and rude service. It was like we were a pure trouble if we dared to go to the restaurant while... it was open. It took a long time to get the attention of the waiting staff when we needed it, and it felt that we were not even worth a look, let alone some nice words (also “Hello” would have helped). The place is obviously popular as there was a queue of people, and the food was quite OK, but it is not worth being treated like that.

Bottom line, would I recommend this restaurant to a friend? No!
Recommended by our hotels owner. My wife had a pork dish, I had veal, both fantastic The side salad was a simple mixed salad, fresh is an understatement, the best I have ever had. We shared a dessert, a local plum tart. Forgot starter, presunto(...cured ham) lovely. Excellent house red ! People on adjacent table enthused over the house white.DO NOT be put off by outside appearance, the exterior is a little tired . Very reasonable prices, Menu very interesting range of dishes.

We were driving from Algarve to Lisbon and stopped by for dinner (very close to the highway). Me and the girls had off course the black pork (delicious), my wife had the lulas (great), and for desert the Sericaia (local desert), and a nice local...red. Honest simple home cooking with great ingredients. Definitely worth the detour.
