Fong's Chinese Restaurant - Monash

We had a birthday party for 18 here last week and expected this would test the establishment but it did not. We have eaten here in small groups many times before and have been very happy with the food and the service. On this occasion we were able to select many different dishes that allowed us to experience the range of food we had not tried before. Out of all the dishes served every one was considered to above average. This is an excellent place to go for an inexpensive meal for two up to a banquet for many. If you do the banquet I suggest you ring before and organise it.

Having read several reports on Fong's, Carole and I decided to try it for dinner recently. In summary, it was an excellent choice in very comfortable surroundings which, together with fine food and wine pleased us both Immensely.There is a very wide-ranging menu, which means it is virtually impossible to not find a course to interest everyone present. Food is very fresh, (always a big point scorer for us), is quality from start to finish and is very well presented. We chose the Spicy Calamari, Mongolian Chicken and a Bird's Nest Special for our meal. The Spicy Calamari certainly was spicy, but this is not a criticism, as it was delicious. I used some sweet chilli sauce which, for me, broke down the spiciness to a level I found pleasure.The Mongolian Chicken was a perfect choice as far as Carole was concerned, as it was slightly sweet and delicious. On the other hand, the Birds Nest Special was full of flavour and certainly had an exciting assortment of goodies, including delicious prawns and snow peas. We really couldn't fault either dish in any way.A pleasant Pinot Grigio washed it all down well.Table service is excellent – Rebecca was a great help; she patiently explained the menu which made choosing all that easier. Importantly, we did not wait long for our meals – and a big winner for us was we were asked how long we would like between courses. Doesn't often happen these days and we appreciated the gesture.Cost is most reasonable and will please anyone on a tight budget, especially considering the high-quality food presented.We have been to several Chinese restaurants in the area over the last few months, and we consider this to be the best we have tried recently. There is no doubt we would highly recommend this restaurant and of course, will be returning soon to try more of the menu. Our congratulations to all of the staff involved in making our evening so pleasant.

This place is so good we go nearly every week. Last night we had lettuce delight and satay skewers which were great but the man course of roast duck was really yummy. We also had steak with pepper which was also good.Relatively inexpensive and good service

Fongs was just a few short steps from home and an easy find situated in the Centre Rd East Bentleigh shopping strip.The menu is absolutely stupendous and if your in a hurry it will take some time to work through the list of foods available. the staff are always helpful and attentive. The food is fresh, not over balanced with sauces and has no MSG. A great alrounder, with meals you couldn't get tired of trying. One to keep for those rainy days.

Calamari spongy and yuk. Waited 45 mins for a take away once. Daughter had take away recently and was sick that night.Hmmmm. Never again
