あさひ Shòu し - Mimasaka

The intense heat after the end of the rainy season is tough, so we went on a drive to the northern part of the prefecture in search of coolness. For lunch, we visited "Asahi Sushi" along the old road in Mimasaka City, a long-established sushi restaurant boasting 50 years of operation in the area. The interior is filled with lush greenery, creating a refreshing atmosphere. We were delighted to see the fan-shaped menu board, a rare sight these days! We ordered the "Jyo nigiri" and the master chef skillfully prepared it for us. It arrived in just over 10 minutes. The traditional 8 pieces of nigiri were served on a long plate, accompanied by pickled ginger, leaf ginger, lemon, and parsley. The fish pieces were large, the rice was substantial with minimal vinegar, and the wasabi was generously applied. The sweet squid, plump shrimp, and tender simmered anago were particularly delicious! We thoroughly enjoyed the classic 8-piece nigiri, experiencing the 50 years of tradition.

This is a hidden gem. The restaurant has big windows and is bright inside. There are lots of indoor plants. It seems like takeout is the main focus, so it's usually not too crowded. They have table seating, counter seating, and tatami rooms. The parking lot is small, but there is a closed shopping mall across the street, so it's not difficult to find a spot to park. The fact that there is no smell of cigarettes (non-smoking?) and no TV or background music is highly appreciated. When I went with my grandmother, they kindly changed her cup to a lighter one and helped with our bags. The daughter(?) is also very beautiful haha. I definitely want to go back again.
