My wife, son, and I were making our way across Canada from upstate New York to Michigan when we decided to stop for the night. We found a roadside hotel on the outskirts of Milton, ON, just west of metropolitan Toronto. There were some restaurant options near the interstate, but we decided to drive into town and look for a place with a local feel, versus a "chain" restaurant. What we found was a gem of a place along Main Street in Milton! The place is small, but very cozy. We waited at the bar for about 10 minutes for a table to open up. Even as we enjoyed a glass of wine at the bar, we were treated like family! The staff was so kind and fun to talk to. Once we were seated, we enjoyed the delicious "Bruschetta italiniana", and their soon-to-be famous "Rigatone alla Locanda" (if it's not famous already)! The rigatoni is prepared table side after the owner tossed in a "Grana Padano" cheese wheel imported from Italy. Not a lot of food items would cause me to alter my travel plans, but this dish would most certainly have me pulling out a map to see if making a trip to Milton is in the cards. This is a family-friendly place that is also romantic for couples. My biggest regret is that it is sure to be famous soon and I won't be able to get a seat at the table! That's OK, because I'll eat at the bar instead!
The service and food were excellent. Not a large restaurant, but quite busy and family-friendly. Prices and portions are very reasonable. If you like Italian, this is the place to go. Be sure to call ahead for reservations, as Locanda is no longer a "hidden" gem!
Just got back from an excellent Father's Day dinner, our 6th time dining at Locanda and we can hardly wait to go back again! Each time, the food has been amazing and the service friendly and attentive. The lasagna is out of this world, a multi-layered extravaganza and the ravioli in mushroom sauce is to die for! One of these times we're going to save room for dessert because they sound soooo good. Definitely a gem and worth checking out! Don R
This restaurant is the best in town for amazing, genuine Italian food. The dishes are delicious and the service is always top-notch.
I discovered this incredible local gem with excellent food, a wonderful atmosphere, and friendly staff. I visited to celebrate a friend's graduation and left feeling completely satisfied both physically and emotionally. The setting is cozy but not overly formal, and the staff are warm and hospitable. And let's not forget about the incredible food - the homemade pasta is a must-try, and the desserts are perfect for sharing a few bites. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu!
