Sweets snacks tasted mediocre, and they don’t put expiry dates on the packets.Chicken pickle was disappointing. I would not go there again for sweets or pickles, better get them homemade by those offering on FB marketplace or shipped from India. View all feedback.

A 5-star restaurant worth a 5-hour-drive for! Summary (for impatient people):SWAGAT is by far the best Indian restaurant in the entire United States. I highly recommend anyone traveling in the region who is looking for a genuine Indian restaurant to come here for the food. Once you have tried SWAGAT, no other Indian restaurant would ever match up in terms of the food quality. Why does this restaurant not have a Michelin star or thousands of 5-star Google reviews? I will never understand. Full Review:30 years ago, when I was just a child, my parents had a tradition of hiking Mission Peak (the famous hike in Milpitas) every Sunday morning and then going to SWAGAT even though we are not Indian. Even though it was a long time ago, I still remember being utterly mind blown about how rich and tasteful the food is here! In the present day, I still have never tasted Indian food as rich and full of taste compared to SWAGAT!Recently, I’m on sabbatical, so I decided to drive 6 hours from out of town just to revisit my childhood hometown and all the restaurants I ate at as a kid. SWAGAT was on the top of my list. After climbing Mission Peak just as I had done decades ago, I went to SWAGAT and to my major surprise, the food quality, service, and ambience has not changed in 30 years! You literally just walk into the restaurant, get seated in seconds, and just grab food at the buffet, and help yourself! Instant-service! No wait time! And oh boy, the food here was just as I had remembered it! Full of flavor, rich, creamy, buttery, and layers and layers of deep flavor! Bombay Palace and Bombay Garden, and any Indian restaurant across California, Utah, Washington, Texas, Oregon, and New York cannot match this level of flavor. And trust me, I’ve been looking for an Indian restaurant for YEARS that could replace SWAGAT, but I could not.My favorite by far was the Butter Chicken, the Paneer, and the Goat Curry. The Butter Chicken is so soft, so full of flavor, and so rich and deep with layers and layers of taste. This is the reason I came back for. If anything in this restaurant, it's the butter chicken you must try. The Paneer is also super tasty. The cheese is not too dry like other Indian restaurants, but soft and chewy, and the spinach was cooked so soft and flavorful! Finally, the Goat was very soft too! It just melts in your mouth! Every dish here was mindblowing, but these 3 win the trophy. The waiter was so polite, and gently came up to my table and asked me how the food was, to which I replied, “This is truly amazing.” and then I told him that I used to come here 30 years ago as a kid. The prices were $15 dollars per person for a buffet, which was super generous and reasonable. I ended up tipping them more than the cost of my meal, and in the future, should I ever get the chance to travel back to Milpitas again, I will most definitely come back for this amazing restaurant again!!!

We have been living in Milpitas for over 20 years now. Swagat used to be one of the very few Indian Restaurant. It food has been good, but with change of cooks, we have seen some ups and downs. Their buffet has been above average for a long time, but never inviting. So me and my wife visited to have another go for buffet a month ago, and we could tell that staff has changed, new faces. Food was surprisingly very freshly made and tasty. It level has gone up. We are vegan, so every time we go (now weekly once), we ask as what vegetarian curries they have, since we can't really eat paneer or creamy vegetarian dishes. They have decent non veg spread, but it now they have very good vegetarian spread, with Sambhar, mango/spinanch daal and rasam as regular. They would have Tindora, eggplant. We really like their spinach dish and yesterday, when we asked if they have spinach dish, they told us that they can make it for us as a part of buffet. What a great service. Besides, they also offer, whole wheat bread, since we do not have naan. Their Jackfruit biryani has been great. We like their new preparations, as it has very less oil and mild spices, where one can really taste the flavor.Couple of suggestions to improve further provide spring green salad, fruits cantaloupe, papaya. berries. In vegetarian dishes have cruciferous (cauliflower or cabbage), garbanzo beans (chole) and spinach or mustard saag, then this would be perfect heaven for vegan. New staff has been great in accommodating our requests.Vegetarian options: Great vegetarian options now, could do better. Food taste fresh, and they should keep that in mind. In past, we have experienced stale food once in four times, and that is why we reduced our frequency to come here. However, with mild spices and less oil, food flavors has been great.
