Serica is an Italian Chinese fusion restaurant redefined to create a myriad of innovative and exciting dishes. The restaurant itself is cosy a welcoming server greeted us and knowledgable advised the two of us on five dishes to order as we opted for the a la carte. Each dish was a medley of the two cuisines, encompassing the different flavours and blending into one. They were all very balanced while surprising to the palette. I was very impressed. The most impressive dish, to me, was the broccoli. Using only broccoli as the main, the chef utilised different methods: from ageing to fermenting, to create a combination of hot and cold, sweet and sour into one dish. So so creative! Dinner culminated to €80 per person including wine, which was a major bargain for the quality and detail of the food.
I didn't know what to expect booking at this place. But we were rewarded with a truly memorable meal crossing several culinary traditions. A 10-course meal is too much for us, so we chose 4 dishes without knowing how to place or order them. No worries, the very accomplished server (we saw just him and the chef .. this is a small place helped order things perfectly, and then divided single orders of the courses into separate plates. I don't know how to place the food served here: perfect oysters raw and cooked in lemon/apricot greens; an out-of-this-world Singaporean crab soup reduction (without having to deal with dissecting the crab ; osso buco dumplings in a saffron sauce (Milanese risotto without the rice? ; and finally Chinese-style pork with a French-inflected cherry reduction. The price here is not cheap, but you will pay a lot more for this kind of experience when this place, or this chef, is discovered.
We chose the 10 course menu including the wine pairing and really enjoyed it. We were surprised in the most positive sense by the combinations of Chinese style and Italian taste. The atmosphere was relaxed and nothing overdone. Just a great evening.
(I'm writing in English but I'm Italian: sorry for any mistake). I came here with family to celebrate my Birthday. It was a great experience. An original mixture of Asian and Italian food, high quality service. Reasonable price (about 50EUR per person).
When you enter a new place as Serica, you have to let yourself go into a new way of fooding. Here the influences from East to West are mixed into a new taste as Milan meets Shanghai or the other way around. Our first experience was extremely good, only we were not that hungry so we opted to eat a la carte, just to explore the various dishes. Next time as there will be a next time) we definitely will take the menu that is probably the best way to understand the philosophy of this new restaurant, modernely furnished and at night with a smmoth and cosy ambience. Service is really great, wine list short but with some unobvious selections fairly priced, the maitre was really welcoming and attentive to our needs. As I wrote we picked up from the a la carte menu, and some dishes were really mouthwatering as the deer tartare, the bao or the onions with smoked ricotta, some as two with fishes, Oyster and Wagyu and the king prawn were not at the same level. Pasta with crab and wonton delicious All in all a great new place in town, and worth more visits to understand exactly where Serica is aspiring to go and to be.
