What Ramon Pinales dislikes about 1861:
This restaurant has a cozy atmosphere, but my brunch experience left much to be desired. To begin with, I found a fly in my coffee. I ordered the Mama Eggs Benedict and requested bacon instead of the scrapple, but the bacon was burnt. The poached eggs were woefully undercooked, with cold, runny whites. While the biscuit was enjoyable, it had jelly underneath the egg, which is not to my taste. Although gratuity is inc... View all feedback.
I enjoy going to Brunch, but this time I decided to try out their dinner menu! The food was delicious. I especially enjoyed the Mango-Ruck wings. Thankfully, we were able to find seating in the back building. The parking lot can get full, so we usually park on the street near the houses across the road. Overall, it was a great dining experience.
Ashley, one of the owners, is incredibly welcoming. My boyfriend and I had the pleasure of getting to know her personally during our first visit when she came over to our table. We also had the chance to meet Jennifer, the chef, who is simply amazing. My boyfriend ordered the chicken biscuit and gravy, and when Jennifer came out to check on us, he mentioned how much he loved the sausage gravy. She went above and beyond by bringing over a generous bowl of it. Our server, Anonda, was just as welcoming and hospitable. She recommended trying the peach cobbler waffle that Jennifer had made for the staff, and it was absolutely delicious. I initially wasn't in the mood for waffles, but I'm so glad Anonda convinced me to try it. The dish was sweet and satisfying, with small beignets on top. Meanwhile, Shawn's meal was savory, so there was something for everyone's taste. Matt and Ashley, the owners, have found an incredible chef in Jennifer. The atmosphere of the restaurant is warm and welcoming, with friendly staff. Overall, if you're looking for a place where you'll feel welcome, enjoy a quality meal at a fair price, and love the atmosphere created by the owners, this is the place for you. The bourbon was also excellent, with Shawn trying the bourbon old fashioned that came with a piece of bacon submerged – a unique touch. The restaurant has a beautiful and intimate aesthetic, with Ashley mentioning that she worked on the wall near our table when the pandemic started, all beginning with a bottle of bourbon. The restaurant is filled with personable and vintage touches while remaining modern and enjoyable. 1861 has become my favorite spot now, and Shawn and I can't wait to return.
PLEASE THUMBS UP IF HELPFUL This was a great meal. First of all it all looked too good to pick just one meal. My friend and I ended up picking on sweet and one savory meal and split them both. Would definitely recommend trying and going back. It has such a interesting style with brick. I love how the decor also served as functional table items.
