The Jug - Middlebourne

Growing up, I always knew that the area was named for how the brook loops in the shape of a jug handle when viewed from above. However, the history seems more intriguing than that. In the 1800s, there were attempts to harness the brook’s hydropower at a mill, but Middle Island Creek proved to be uncooperative; floods destroyed both mills. From the early to mid-1900s, a dam was constructed to manage upstream water and redirect the flow, preserving the distinctive jug handle shape of the river. It took me over 50 years to finally visit the iconic spot in Tyler County that I’ve known about my whole life. The waterfall behind "The Jug" was a wonderful place to explore on a beautiful autumn day.
Was a beautiful place to spend the day with my kids but when I looked up on the DNR website I discovered that it's pretty polluted so that took a lot of fun out of it and we haven't been back since
Best kayaking experience! You can easily launch from the same spot. No need for multiple vehicles. Plus, the staff is very friendly and removes most obstacles in the water.
