The workers here were efficient and welcoming, and while we all try to stay socially removed, the atmosphere will always be a little strange, but also so this pub has a nice feeling, it is always popular when we pass. our drinks arrived immediately, and the menu offers a decent but quite basic choice to humble preisen. our selections arrived quite fast, and with generous portions of chips, looked great, but our two selections were simply ok. the mushroom strawberry sauce was tasty and delightful, but the vegetable lisagne was disappointing blanden, and both dishes were missing somehow. it is hard to define why. we had more pleasant meal times at similar places close. a bit more fantasy in the menu could seduce us back, otherwise I don't think we would return.
We haven't been with shepherd and dog for a while. we had visited friends and decided to try again. we were a table of four, we ordered our food and waited, and waited and waited. there were two empty tables close by, which were occupied after a few minutes. after some considerable time, both tables were served by us. we complained to the waitress and she went to the kitchen and came back and told us that the reason why the other tables were served first was one of the tables their appetizers had been served and the other table had cold food. I can fully understand the starter scenario, but I am not sure that lasagne and chips are classified as cold eating, although it was a “side salat. After minutes, two of our plates arrived, but we had to wait five minutes for the other two. unnecessary to say we will not be back in a hurry
Great eating, very attentive friendly and polite staff. we had a Sunday dinner for us. the service was fast and we called really enjoyed our eating. Thank you.

Excellent meal. Food was lovely. Excellent value for money. A lovely friendly place to visit. Would recommend to anyone.
Nestled within the charming Shepherd Market, Shepherd and Dog offers a traditional pub experience that many patrons seem to cherish. While the service can be a mixed affair—some enjoying prompt attention and delicious meals, while others faced long waits—most agree that the warm atmosphere and friendly staff enhance the dining experience. The menu, although basic, features generous portions, with standout dishes like the fish and chips and steak pie. Families with children appreciate the garden amenities and picnic options. Overall, the pub holds promise but could benefit from a more imaginative menu to entice return visits.

The lasagne was delicious, and we received a warm welcome from the friendly staff. I would rate the food, service, and atmosphere all as a 5 out of 5.

Had a lovely lunch here in Nov 2023. The food was great and there was a good variety on the menu. We had a two course meal with a drink for about £25 per person. The beer battered fish and chips were devine. Dogs are allowed in the bar area but not the restaurant area. Vegetarian options: There were multiple vegetarian options, including a lovely goats cheese pie Parking: The pubs car park has a good number of spaces and there is some street parking for 3 or 4 cars directly outside. Wheelchair accessibility: The pub is on a slope. The carpark surface is hard but a little uneven, should be OK for wheelchair access. The front of the pub has a decked area for outside sitting and this includes a ramp to the entrance. Inside the pub there are no internal doors in the restaurant area and there's room to manoeuvre a wheelchair. Toilet access is OK but not you do need to go through a door to access it.
Had another lovely meal yesterday, Sunday roast was amazing, enjoyed by all. Thanks to everyone who made our day enjoyable Price per person: £20–30 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Recommended dishes: Sunday Roast
I called last minute to get a table for dinner as I had family visiting. I was able to easily book a table with no issues. The service was fast and friendly, and the food was delicious. The idea of having Connect 4 games on the tables was a great touch (especially since I won 4 games in a row). It seems to be a popular spot! If you enjoy traditional pubs and good food, I would definitely recommend this place. The average price per person is between £20 and £30.
