I have been frequenting this pub for the past few months and I must say it is a fantastic traditional rural pub. The owners are traditional and the staff are all friendly. It's great to see that such charming country pubs still exist. Additionally, there is a nearby glamping site called Deer Barn Glamping in Hockworthy, which is a great place to stay just a 15-minute walk away. View all feedback.
My good lady, elderly parents, and I visited this pub based on recommendations from friends, and we were not disappointed. It is a small and welcoming remote country pub that is definitely worth finding. The staff and locals were very friendly and the Sunday lunch was fantastic. Special mention to the young lady who served us, as she took good care of us. The homemade desserts, including a variety of ice creams, were delicious. On our drive home, we were already planning our next visit.
This pub won 't be to everyone 's taste, but if you remember fondly when pubs had real character, were genuine 'locals ' frequented by real people who wanted to chat and socialise, then you should really appreciate this place. It is homely and friendly, with great wood burners in winter. The food is home cooked style, nothing fancy, but very tasty and with generous servings of the expensive things like meat and brussels/green beans that most pubs are too stingy with. The deserts, including upto15 flavours of ice cream, are a real treat. Prices are very reasonable, and there 's plenty of walks nearby to get rid of that stuffed feeling. Highly recommended.

We loved this small, friendly pub. We wanted a meal after a long day cycling. We enjoyed a pint or two of the local Otter followed by the shoulder of lamb with gravy, roast potatoes and yorkshire pudding, rounded off by home-made blackcurrant icecream. We went back the next evening. Very tasty. .... And a shout out to Roxy, the very beautiful puppy, who was also enjoying the local hostelry. This is a simple, traditional pub which is what we wanted, but if you prefer to eat in a sophisticated setting this may not suit you so well.
Wonderful food in a lovely typical English country pub. Three of us had the beef and one had pork. All of the meat was cooked beautifully and the crackling with the pork was the best I had tasted out! All of the vegetables (6) were also perfectly cooked. We could not fault this meal and although this is our third visit to this pub we had never done Sunday lunch. We are now thinking of booking for one of the Christmas meals. Excellent value for money.
