We arrived expecting a wait—especially dur... read more A Hidden Gem in Little Havana Visited Doce Provisions at 8 PM on a Thursday in March, and it was an absolute delight. We arrived expecting a wait—especially during spring break—but there was none. Zero wait time, and we even scored free street parking just a block away. At first glance, the place seemed quiet; we were the only customers inside. The indoor décor was underwhelming—simple and basic, nothing special. But then we noticed people emerging from an outside seating area, and new arrivals kept disappearing out back. Curious, we stayed a bit, but the AC made it chilly inside, so we asked to move outdoors. Wow—what a transformation! The outside space was like stepping into a different world. It felt like a paved backyard shared by old Havana homes (I’ve never been, but that’s how I imagined it , with climbing vines lining the walls and trees sprouting through cutouts in the pavement. The music was spot-on—soft enough to fill the air but never drowning out our conversation. The rustic furniture fit the vibe perfectly, and with March’s ideal weather, it was pure magic. We fell in love with the setting instantly. The food was solid. We shared the avocado salad and the Mahi Shrimp dish. The salad was a standout—bright, buttery avocado paired beautifully with a generous handful of cherry tomatoes, a tangy vinaigrette, and some greens. The Mahi Shrimp came with a sauce that kept both the fish and shrimp moist, avoiding that dry, over-grilled texture you sometimes get. We ended with the tres leches dessert, but it was too sweet for our taste—though that’s just personal preference. Our waiter wasn’t fluent in English and couldn’t answer many of our questions about Cuban cuisine (it’s new to us! . But honestly, that added to the charm—immersing us in a culture different from ours. Overall, the experience was fantastic—great food, zero hassle, and an outdoor oasis we won’t forget.
