We dined at this restaurant for lunch, and found that they offer separate lunch and dinner menus. The lunch menu had a few vegetarian options which could be made vegan, including dishes with Beyond Meat and pasta. The average price is around 15-16 euros, slightly higher than usual. I had an incredible experience at Sao Bernardo. They created a fully vegan menu for me every night, so I could enjoy like everyone else. There was not even a salad or an egg for dessert. They even made a whole cake for me and gave it to me to take home the next morning. The kitchen was creative, innovative, and high quality. They completely understand the concept of veganism. A must-visit if you are in the Douro Valley.
We went to this restaurant for lunch and were pleasantly surprised by the delicious full vegan menu. The views were also magnificent, and we enjoyed some wine with our meal which was excellent. However, our experience was slightly tainted by an awkward encounter with one of the staff members. Upon entering, we followed the signs to the restaurant, assuming it was the correct procedure since we were not staying at the hotel. A hotel receptionist approached us, chastising us for not checking in at the hotel first. His approach was very confrontational and made us feel uncomfortable for a simple mistake. Despite this, we decided to stay and enjoy our meal due to our prior reservations and long drive to get there. While I typically refrain from mentioning individual server incidents, this one was particularly unpleasant and left a sour note on an otherwise pleasant dining experience.

My experience at Sao Bernardo was amazing. They prepared a complete vegan menu for me each evening so I could enjoy my dining experience like everyone else. I never had just a salad or ice cream for dessert - they even made a custom cake for me to take home. The kitchen was creative, innovative, and top-notch, fully embracing the vegan concept. We went for lunch and were pleasantly surprised to find a fantastic vegan menu that was incredibly tasty. The ambiance was also lovely and we tried their house beer, which was excellent. However, I was slightly disappointed due to an odd encounter with the staff. Upon entering, there is a reception area for the hotel attached to the restaurant, with a sign directing guests towards the restaurant. Assuming this was the correct path since we were only there for lunch and not staying at the hotel, we followed the sign. However, a hotel staff member approached us and immediately reprimanded us for not checking in at the hotel reception, lecturing us for about 2 minutes. It was clear that he was not pleased with us bypassing the hotel check-in process. It would have been more appreciated if he had informed us politely, as it was an honest mistake on our part. I usually give servers the benefit of the doubt as everyone can have a bad day, but this encounter was particularly unsettling.
