If you're stopping over at Bordeaux airport before heading off somewhere else as we did recently this is a pretty good option if you want to avoid the indifferent hotel food you often get. It's within an existing hotel very close to the airport and other hotels. The food was not bad at all. The decor is very "French". - I think they call it "élan". You find it nowhere else in the world. Not to everyone's taste but I... View all feedback.
What Josette Weiss doesn't like about L'Iguane:
LÓlive de Mer is in the same building as the Quality Suites Merignac hotel, but is independent of the hotel. We had really wanted to go to its more up-market sister restaurant - l'Iguane - but ths was closed for the month. The owner/exploitant was very charming and apologetic about this and the food and wine was ok without being exceptional but the decor is super-modern and, on the first night (we went twice) there w... As Easyjet were paying we were required to have the set menu, but drinks were not included. The Carpaccio du saumon, perle de japon was a light tasty starter. The main course was Lomo & pommes de terres sautees aux onions was something we had never had, and we did not know what lomo was ( it turned out to be dense thick very lean slices of tenderloin of pork) very well prepared. The meal was let down by the dessert....Fondant au chocolat, glace vanille....a small chocolate macaroon topped with a small spoonful of vanilla ice cream. Service was pleasant and efficient.
The decor looks like a Disneyland or MacDonald's children playground. Uncomfortable, rounded acrylic chairs. The food is OK but the choice is poor. Good salad buffet and good Bordeaux wines but pricier than other restaurants around the city. The waiter was pretty unprofessional and not very welcoming (I guess this last point is a widely known problem wherever you go in France). If you don't have other choice, you can go there. Food quality is good, but you will pay a little bit more than in other places and you will eat your meal in an unwelcoming, cold atmosphere.
Though this restaurant is in a working zone, it is worth to have a dinner here. The cuisine is fine and has the level of a star chief, with sweetest prices. The owner is an expert in wine and made us discover some unknown wines which were really nice surprises.
The first course" foie gras" way too big for a started, but price tells to truth 22 euro per portion : rip off. Main course veal was ok, dry but eatable. The pigeon came in frist all raw , bllod all over the plate and the apple?onion gratin over done. The next try for the pigeon still tasteless. And the desserts: the waiter flipped over the art piece of the chef and the rhubarb straberry sherbet was hidden on a half ball of merigne. The rhubarbs around the plate were raw.. All this costs us for 155 euro ( two glasses of champagne , 2 glasses or red wine and a bottle of sparkling water) The drinks were at the right temperature. Talked to the chef personally, but he did not change his attide of the pigeon portion: it is the first time ever he get a complaints. Please Michelin people check the rating again. The restaurant is location in teh same building with hotel Quality Suites ( what a joke that hotel is... ruined down and smells bad, spills of different liquids I cannot even name all over the establiswhment). I left my jacket to the restaurant and now flight back to home country and of course the hotelsw does not have the keys to the restaurant.. let's see if I even get is back...
Our first night in Bordeaux for the Barrel tasting of 2009 wines. Starkly modern and futuristic decor. Pretty darn good restaurant, not very crowded for a Friday night. It didn't open until 1930hrs. It is France, jet lag was catching up, but once we decided to relax and enjoy it, very nice and above average. Huge Wine List that you have to ask for. Staff was nice and friendly, My associate had the duck confit which looked very good. I had the lamb. We were going to return, but it was a busy campaign and we did not go again. Located near the Airport in a Hotel.
