Description

George’s in Meredith, New Hampshire, is a beloved local spot known for consistently good food and great value, standing out against national chains. Many patrons praise its reliable quality and welcoming atmosphere. However, some recent experiences have fallen short, with complaints about mushy seafood, missing sides, underwhelming desserts, and inconsistent service, especially on busy nights. While longtime visitors remain faithful due to the overall positive reputation, occasional lapses suggest that George’s may struggle during peak times. Despite these issues, it remains a favorite for those seeking hearty, straightforward meals in a charming small-town setting.

We ordered a seafood platter and a scallop and clam dish to go on Friday night, and unfortunately, it was quite disappointing. The food was a mess—there was no coleslaw or tartar sauce, and the bread was left over from the scallops and clams, which was just not acceptable. Overall, it was the worst experience we've had there. This was the first time we'd had such poor food, and we drove all the way from Sandwich, NH for it.

I've dined here numerous times, and it consistently lives up to its reputation. I can't recall ever having a bad meal. There was one occasion when the service was poor, but that's something that can happen anywhere. When you compare the food and service to any national chain, Georges always comes out on top. While "good food" is an accurate description, "real value" and "consistency" are also fitting adjectives.

My husband and I have traveled all over the U.S. and Canada, but our favorite little restaurant and diner remains George's in the lovely town of Meredith, New Hampshire.

We ordered a seafood platter and a scallop and clam dish for takeout on Friday night, and unfortunately, it was disappointing. The food was mushy, and there was no coleslaw or tartar sauce included. Additionally, the breading on the scallops and some of the clams was not right—it was the worst experience we've had. This was the first time we’ve encountered such poor quality food. We drove down from Sandwich, NH, expecting better.

I was totally disappointed. I had my three grandchildren. 13, 9 and 7. 2 children should have been from the children 's menu. When we got the orders the 9 yr old did not have the child 's portion. I asked the waitress why and she said I thought she was older. . We had to keep asking for water. The fish and chicken was marginal. Desert was terrible. Tapioca pudding. 1/2 cup portion, apple crisp microwaved and waitress said it might not be hot enough, really and slice of white cake with chic frosting dry. Sent it back. Worst diner experience. Take advantage of tourist. Don 't waste your money or time. Too expensive too.
