The hospitality offered by Azzurra is exceptional...we were welcomed as old friends by Alberto and Nina and the Mercallo community and given service food and drinks of exceptional standard...Azzura is a perfect example of genuine traditional Italian hospitality and is a ‘must stop’ when you are in this area of Italy...the coffee alone is worth the stop

We had a delay in our accommodation and advised to have a d... read more Mercallo is a sleepy village off the tourist trail, situated just off busy SS629 near lake Comabbio. We had a delay in our accommodation and advised to have a drink in the cafe while we waited. Alberto, his wife, staff and customers are a friendly bunch who go out of their way to make you feel welcome. The cafe sells a range of ice cream/cakes as well as hot and cold drinks. In the evening they supply snacks/light bites with your drinks which is great if you've had a busy day touring! They're happy to mix a cocktail and there's a range of wine, bottle and tap beers (if you want a bottle then ask to see the selection). We're staying in the village for a month and have already been back it won't be the last time as there's no better way to round down the day!
