Monkey's Roost - Melrose

Awesome old school supper club. Comfortable atmosphere with good food.

The food was very bland. No seasoning in the chowder nor on my steak also ordered a piece of fried cod fish and it was ok I guess, again pretty sad in the flavor department. A friend had the walleye and said it was good. My girlfriend had the rouladen and baked potato and said that was nice. I tried it and I would agree! The salad bar was stellar! The service was fast, very friendly, and very informative. Another unfortunate part of the night is they do NOT have an ATM and do NOT accept card. So expect to pay with cash or check only. The decor was outdated and there was a funky odor in the dining room. I couldn't describe it, it was honestly just off putting. I'm giving this place 3 stars becuase we ate here with our grandparents as kids and I remember the good always being good so maybe just an off night I don't know for certain. I wanted to like this dining experience and had high expectations and was a bit let down unfortunately.

Very good food. Service excellent. Social distancing between tables. Lots of hand sanitizer stations. Definitely would go again.

I have been going here for years the German food is amazing and the salad bar is great.

The Roost is always a good option. Brian behind the bar makes some killer Old Fashioneds, and whatever else you drink. The staff is always friendly, and the food is consistent. The salad bar rocks... lots of what you expect and some of what you don't expect, like liver pate!! It's a regular stop for us.
