This pub was walking distance from our accommodation. Service was friendly and fast. Beer on tap was icy cold and food delicious. We dined here 3 times in 3 days and can not find fault with the place. View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about The Royal Hotel Essendon:
Ordered chilli prawns and the chef must have either hated us or was incompetent. There was far too much chilli on the prawns even for an Asian person used to hot meals. The prawns could not be eaten and the quantity of chilli was sufficient for another 6 meals. A great disappointment given my positive review of other meals some months ago. View all feedback.
I arrived here at about 1210 hours, not long after lunch commenced. The bistro door was locked (security measure?) but was immediately opened. The carpet, tables and chairs look only a couple of years old and were comfortable. There is an open kitchen.A waitress took my order for lemon lime and bitters as a drink, served in a large Coke glass, and the flathead fillets. The latter were served with thick cut chips and a small amount of salad and were delicious.I followed this with a hot banana fritter that had some ice cream and a little cream, along with a berry coulis. It was pleasing to the palate. While I departed at about 1300 and hence did not see all the patrons, around 15 to 20 had already enjoyed lunch so the hotel does a steady trade, but is probably busier at dinner time.Saving 10 per cent is easy by using a Monty's Rewards card as this is yet another good value Woolworths/ ALH Group hotel. Including a second drink, the bill was A$27 which is very, very reasonable. An enjoyable experience that was not wrecked by stupid loud techno music or other such intrusions to the ears. Well done.

Been here before over the years living in Essendon, can be hit and miss, normal pub fare, can be noisy poker machines next door and tab with loud tv
A menu with a specials board and Seniors Meal deal. The staff are pleasant and the food is delivered within reasonable timeframes with drinks at bar prices.
