Just shy of 5 stars (only just!). Atmosphere nothing special (but not bad mind you), attentive friendly service (well above par for this segment) and very solid Hunan cuisine. Excellent value at $30 per head and absolutely will return. Note we did have a Mandarin speaker in our group and he kept the wait staff on their toes! View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about Red Cliff Authentic Chinese Restaurant:
To be fair, we didn't eat in we ordered takeaway. We were only around 2km from restaurant. 2 hr wait for food which, not surprisingly was cold and soggy. We did call to let them know and were offered a $30 credit on more food plus delivery for tomorrow. An offer in sure they know we won't take. Shame. Won't be ordering from there again. This was a surprise. Amazing food. Expensive but the portions are huge. no credit card only cash. Best chinese i have ever eaten. chicken and chilli stir fry, duck fried rice are both incredible. If I lived in Melbourne this would be my go to place.
We ate here the other evening after leaving a conference. I 'd passed Red Cliff restaurant dozens of times but had never stopped to investigate. First signs were very good- on a Friday evening. Plenty of customers and all of them were Asian folks, mostly young people. That is always a good sign. The menu is not that ambitious as far as size goes but there 's plenty to choose from. Two of us ordered some dumplings and they were pronounced first class. My wife and i ordered a dish of long beans with minced pork. Delicious flavours although the beans could have been crisper. We also ordered a half duck in a spicy Thai style sauce. Not sure what the chef was trying to achieve with 'Thai-style ' but the end product was excellent. The only negative was the service. The servers were very plesant and friendly but they certainly don 't have 'waiters ' eyes ' and it was difficult to catch their attention. Prices were what one would expect from a CBD restaurant but there are plenty of dishes for under twenty bucks and the dumplings (generous serves) were in the ten to twelve dollar range. The restaurant is both licensed and BYO (two dollars per glass as corkage)
We invited family and friends to celebrate Chinese New Year at this restaurant. We'd been there a few times before and our office staff were regular patrons. Something has gone wrong! We were embarrassed and sorry we had chosen this place for our dinner. The service was abysmal seemed like only 5 staff for a full restaurant. One dish our guests ordered took an hour and a half to arrive. Food wasn't good either. Our staff had a similar experience for lunch this week slow and when one of them found a hair in the food, was told well you've eaten half the dish, you'll have to pay for half! It's a shame, but I just can't let it go!
What an amazing authentic Chinese spread we had @redcliffchinese located at Queen Street CBD They have an elaborate menu making it hard to pick only couple of items so we ended up ordering so many because we wanted to try it all. It included, appetizers like chicken in chilli, fried pork strips mains like noodles, rice with duck, braised pork, kung pao chicken and brown sugar buns And special mention to the yummy watermelon juice. We would definitely recommend you to visit and try some authentic Chinese food packed with flavours.
