What Gerald P doesn't like about I Love Dumplings Flemington:
Pros: Great food with amazing flavor, affordable prices, all the necessary condiments for delicious dumplings, decent service, bustling atmosphere indicating popularity.
Cons: Cramped tables, bulky wooden chairs that impede movement, difficulty in securing a table without reservations or arriving early, bill receipt only in Chinese language potentially leading to confusion.
Overall: Undoubtedly the top choice for dum... View all feedback.
Would definitely recommend I Love Dumplings' veggie dumplings with Sichuan hot chili! So good!
I first discovered I Love Dumplings (the restaurant, not a statement) when they were in their smaller premises a few doors up from where they are now and all I 've ever had there are the dumplings, and they were great! With such great food, expansion into larger premises is always a temptation and I 've been back a couple of times since their move to where they are now. I 've still enjoyed both times, but felt that it wasn 't quite as good as it was before the larger space kinda detracts from the atmosphere and the dumplings weren 't quite as good as they used to be; some were a bit overcooked (almost burnt) on one side and not quite cooked on the other. I know that 's sort of how that 's supposed to be but not quite like that. With the larger premises comes more customers, but ordering another dish was a feat to try to catch staff 's eye and then the wait for the order was a fair while. The same for ordering extra drinks. Can 't comment on dishes other than the dumplings.
Very Solid 3..Asian eats proved to be among the surest bets for a good meal you could find in many parts of AU, and in the great city of MELB in particular, and the eponymous house specialty here proved to be no exception. The dumplings were plump and the skins had just the right consistency and snap to them when bitten into. All of the fillings we sampled, chicken and prawn, classic pork and leek, and spicy lamb, were flavorful and exceptionally fresh tasting. Also extremely fresh were the greens with oyster sauce and the beers were nice and cold. The price proved reasonable, especially so by this cities standards. Overall, pretty pretty good.
The food is good, fresh and very affordable. The wine list is not good at all but they do allow BYO and there is a bottle shop across the road. The service is brisk, unfriendly and it is not uncommon to be ignored by the staff. I still go semi-regularly for good dumplings at good prices but I would not plan to come here for a special occasion or with guests.
Dumplings are delicious and come in different sorts to choose from. Great value. With Chinese decor that seems to transport one back in time to the Ming Dynasty, it's a great place for a night out with some friends.
