Cottle on Coventry - Melbourne

Cottle is very noisy, but that may make it easier for private conversations in a crowded space. It was very busy when I got here in late morning, but they found me a table and cleaned it off. I was brought water without having to ask and my long black coffee came with a jug of hot water on the side for me to adjust the strength to what I liked. I chose a Smoked Salmon sandwich and this was brought toasted as I had requested. The decor is pleasant, with the only downside that the door to the toilets was hard against one table and they had to be asked to move to let someone through.

I have been buying tea and coffee here for many years. The quality of the tea has been excellent. Eugene helps me select coffee and I have always liked his suggestions. Eugene makes an exceptional long black. During Covid lockdown, Eugene made sure we could still get tea and coffee. He’s been wonderful. Thanks for everything, Eugene. They also make a great little breakfast which I have enjoyed many times. A special local place, for locals. I am 100% devoted to this place.

Second visit here and it doesn’t disappoint. Excellent service, great coffee and superb choice of loose leaf tea. The thyme and garlic mushrooms with potato rosti and halloumi was delicious. So good.

Melbourne is famous for coffee. This place shouldn't be. My latte wasn't pleasant. We left the place stinking of the bacon that was being fried next to us.
