Decor was average, quite old feeling not th... read more Had a great experience here a few weeks ago with my father. Tried something new, not your average 'Melbourne ' cafe. Decor was average, quite old feeling not the classic 'rustic ' feel but just outdated interior... However, the food portions were massive for price, well cooked, and delicious! Hearty meals, very homely.The juices were room temperature, would have loved some ice but definitely freshly squeezed. Waitress struggled with English, but was very sweet and professional nonetheless.Would absolutely come again when in the area.

But I was pleasantly surprised to find a cafe that not only provides gluten-free options and menu modifications, but also has friendly and attentive young women as servers.

The extra chocolate was quickly popped into the mu... read more The three of us arrived for lunch. They cleaned our table and coffees and the hot chocolate came put quickly. The extra chocolate was quickly popped into the mug and it was drunk very quickly. Delicious. For lunch I had the Persian omelette, the flavours were amazing. The other two dishes were the egg and bacon muffin, the yellow yolk was striking against the muffin, the cheese was melted to perfection. Bacon was cut into strips which finished the meal off perfectly. The last dish was the brekky melt. It came on 3 slices of toast and everything in this dish complemented the other ingredients very well. To top it off the customer service was just amazing. Thanks we will be back.

This was in 2018 Whenever I go for holiday, I am always the one doing the planning meticulous, obsessive, kiasu... You name it, I probably admit it. But alas, I didn 't plan my time to South Melbourne Market well.. I arrived there on Thursday morning not realising that it was not opened. In fact they are only opened on Wednesday, and Friday to Sunday. As I didn 't want the experience to dampen the spirit, and also because we had not eaten any breakfast yet.. we decided to look for nearby place to eat. Coincidentally this cafe was the nearest to where we were... And the fact that the exterior of the cafe was bright and colourful. So we just walked in and greeted by the ever affable and friendly Peter. We didn 't know what to order so Peter actually helped us to make up the minds. And luckily he did.. the meal was quite memorable. Beans of Brittany home made baked beans with polish sausages, bacon and ham Baked Spanish eggs with tomato concasse, garlic, chorizo, and smoked paprika Egg bacon muffin Pierogi this is Polish traditional dumplings using organic homemade quark mashed potatoes, caramelised onions, lightly pickled coleslaw and crispy bacon When I checked, I discovered that it has been changed to Tipsy Village .. but Peter should still be there. If you haven 't tried Polish food before, I suggest that you try this cafe, and especially their Pierogi. We spent quite some time to eat and also photoporn ed... After that we drove to Brighton Beach nearby and then returned to the city.

I have been twice onc... read more December 2019 I had the honour of meeting the nicest Chef from this venue at an event last year. He told me to come along and have a meal. I have been twice once before I met him; for breakfast and then for dinner with a friend late last year. [This wasn't a free meal, just in case you thought that]. This intimate venue is situated across the road from the South Melbourne Market and is a great place for breakfast, lunch or dinner. The menu is full of Europeanesk foods and be sure to check out the specials blackboard on the left as there are always great one offs to be had. My friend ordered the pierogi [dumplings] entree size, which costs $15.50, plus a side salad. She said they were so tasty and full of filling. Highly recommend them. I ordered the beef roulade with spaetzle noodles accompanied with homemade coleslaw cost $26.50. There was so much food I had to take some home in a container. It reminded me very much of my Mother's cooking. Yum. The wine selections here are also worth trying. If you want something different that is very Polish Germanic come to this place you won't be disappointed. Thanks Chef!

Especially loved the pierogi’s and the white Polish sausage dish. We wished we had had room for one of the soups as they all looked fabulous next time. Going back!

Not that I did not know Eastern European cuisine, but that is right there is South Melbourne! Poland is renowned for its tasty, hearty cuisine and this place is a testament to that. The interior is very cosy, home like. The pace has this rustic feel to it. There are a plenty of country paintings on the walls, quiet, non-intrusive European music. They have a fantastic Polish beers and vodkas. The owner will keenly guide you through how to drink them (and, believe me, you have to try freezed vodka, you will be amazed, I promise you). They offer genuine Polish home made food, that is as authentic as you can get outside of Poland and is absolutely amazing. They serve a great selection of soups, especially for cold winter days and evenings to warm you up. They also make their own pickles ranging from tomatoes, to beetroot, to carrots, to grapes. Make sure you try cucumbers in brine. Western style recepies use vinegar, whereas in Eastern Europe salted water is more common and that makes them yummier, especially with vodka. The owner is very friendly, happy for a small chat and will explain all the intricacies of dishes and drinks. Tipsy Village is a highly recommended place, indeed.

Sure the wait staff need a bit of training but to be honest we found the coffee very good and looking at the plates of breakfast going past makes us want to return.Nice to sit outside in the sun and watch the coming and goings of the market across the road.

The service was quick and friendly.Yesterday my pancakes were delicious, and coffee excellent, the staff is very nice.The over Peter is a charming person and makes you feel welcome.This place is dogs friendly, big plus in a busy area like South Melbourne.I will be back for sure :)
