Located in the courtyard of the schloss, nice spot. Serves local Thuringian specialities so a bit different from the run of the mill places. Service efficient and helpful, nice food, fair prices and portions.
Seven of us came here for dinner on the last evening of our trip to Meiningen and were not disappointed. Good food (and we especially appreciated the Seniorenteller smaller portions of main dishes for elderly people). There was an amuse bouche to start with and my melt in the mouth Schweinebacken were very tasty and served with dumplings, a local speciality. We had a choice of good wines (recommend the unexpectedly flavoursome Saale Unstrut), and on this particular evening, enjoyed the pleasant experience of dining outside in the sunshine against the backdrop of the elegant Elisabethenschloss.
Just inside the Court of the castle is the nice outside and inside restaurant nestled. The service is very politeful and helpful when you have questions. The meals are magnificent decorated with eatable flowers. The steak was good prepared. Try the Hüten. And drink their local beer. Washrooms are modern, clean.
Expect to sit behind the thick walls of the old Palace of Meiningen with all modern comfort. Deco could have been a bit more festive, but the little chocolate Santa hidden under the paper napkin was a nice surprise. There was a small amuse bouche soup served. Main course portions were generous. They gave extra dumplings and red cabage on a rechaud on the table. Both game and goose roasts were lovely. Dessert soso, Crème Brulé unfortunately cold, my ginger bread dessert soggy and a bit bland. Service was friendly and up to some chatting. Overall a pleasant Christmas Dinner.
