Easter brunch. Staff was lovely. Food was great. The place was empty though and very dark. There were a couple of drunk men at the bar and it was only 11:30am. So, the ambiance was lacking. Better served for dinner and nightlife. View all feedback.
What JanineK doesn't like about Stephen's On State:
Bartender was so sweet and friendly. Server was as well. Asked for steak medium rare and it came out well done. It was sent back and then came back to us practically mooing it was so raw. Very disappointed. View all feedback.
A 6:30 PM Tuesday reservation turned into a 2 1/2 hour dinner…not even half the restaurant was full. I asked for my filet temp to be medium and it came out well done and was barely edible. I hoped it would be a better experience than the last time I was here 9 years ago but same bad food and bad service.
Sadly we went for Mothers day and it turned out to be a buffet that had only 4 items it. The carved beef was awful. Scrambled eggs, eggs bene ? , breakfast meats bacon, ham, sausage and potatoes. The dessert station was all pre bought Costco BJ cakes and danish and stale cookies. NOT worth $49 pp !!
Vince was an awesome server and the prime ribbed sandwich rocks!
Compliments to the Chef who was cooking the food on Mother's Day 2024!!! OMG My Rib eye steak litterally melted in my mouth and the flavor was OUTSTANDING. Both of our entrées delicious. Atmosphere even on a crowded holiday was very inviting. Our first time here but definitely not our last!! See you for dinner soon!
Stephen 's on State might be good any other time, however, we went for Mother 's Day with reservations and thought we 'd be able to order from the menu but it was a buffet. AND for what it cost $45 ea it was definitely NOT worth it. Our server tried but it didnt work out. We ordered sl.spicy ****** Mary 's and when the server came back with them he said ,the bartender will not make them spicy ...if thats the case our server should have come back to ask us if we still wanted them first, not assume we would drink them. The buffet was less than appealing and there were no identifiers at each dish...then again scrambled eggs, eggs bene, bacon, sausage, ham and potatoes didnt need much labeling. The prime roast at the begining needed serious work ...I felt bad for the young man trying to serve....he needed both a better table AND a sharper knife....he was having a tough time. 2 salads were offered and a corner full of pastries none of which were labeled and few if any were fresh made Entemans mini cup cakes and Costco or BJ pound cake !! We might go back on another day but it will have its work cut out for it...its at the bottom of the list.
