Reviews - Amoo's

#6 - Vegetarian - McLean, Persian, Middle Eastern

Reviews summary

Amoo’s Restaurant, deeply rooted in authentic Persian cuisine, has garnered a mixed reputation among patrons. While the menu features delicious options such as tender kebabs and gourmet sabzi, service issues mar the dining experience. Many customers report long wait times and inattentive staff, with some claiming a rude atmosphere from management. Despite these shortcomings, the culinary quality remains praised, particularly the saffron tea and diverse meat dishes. With a cozy setting that evokes the charm of traditional Iranian eateries, Amoo’s appeals to both locals and food enthusiasts alike, though diners may wish for improved service to complement their meals.

Very good food and friendly service. This small restaurant deserves a visit and a visit and again and again and again. We had barg and koobideh, lamb, and two stews, one with tahdig. Kabobs and stews are both great. Chinese cuisine has similar dish too,you let the sauce soak the crispy rice. The Mahicheh was cooked perfectly well. Meat separates from the bone upon touch, juiceand flavorful. Dished are of larger portions. Even the rice are tasty. Finish the meal with some saffron ice cream.

They have some authentic Persian cuisine and a variety of options even for non-Iranian guests. The environment and atmosphere look quite like the classic Iranian model restaurants and you'll feel comfortable dining there even if they don't have a verylarge did in the area. I highly recommend this place for the taste of authentic Persian food. Hope you also enjoy the time youspend at this restaurant

Best Iranian cuisine I tried. Small and elegant venue. Reserve your table ahead. Staff seem to be on the rush though. Our favorite is the Bakhtiari which is a flattened beef tenderloin wrapped in ground beef lamb and served with basmati rice. Ihave never seen it served in any Iranian restaurant before. Their Zereshk Polo has saffron glazed barberries which is a musttry. Chicken is so tender too. We ordered a tea pot that works well after the meal. Saffron ice cream has a unique taste andtexture. Our Ashe soup was missed due to the rush. We will come back again for sure.

This restaurant offers a selection of authentic Persian dishes, catering to both Iranian and non-Iranian guests. The atmosphere closely resembles that of traditional Iranian restaurants, providing a comfortable dining experience. Despite not having a very spacious dining area, I highly recommend this place for its delicious Persian cuisine. I hope you enjoy your time at this restaurant as much as I did.

This restaurant serves the best Iranian cuisine I have ever tried. The venue is small and elegant, so it's recommended to reserve your table ahead of time. The staff seemed to be in a hurry, but they were still friendly. Our favorite dish was the Bakhtiari, a flattened beef tenderloin wrapped in ground beef lamb and served with basmati rice. I have never seen this dish served at any other Iranian restaurant before. Their Zereshk Polo, which includes saffron-glazed barberries, is a must-try. The chicken was also very tender. We ended our meal with a pot of tea, which was a nice way to finish the dining experience. Don't miss out on their saffron ice cream for dessert.

Absolutely LOVE this place! The hummus was so tasty and the egg plant. We had the Mohicheh (lamb shank), Chicken Cornish Saltoni and Lamb Loin Fillet! The atmosphere was very nice and the staff is amazing! Would highly recommend this Persian restaurant!

We ordered the Bakhtiari, which was a combination of koobideh and Barg. As a Persian, I always believed that Bakhtiari included chicken as well, so this was a different take on it, I suppose! Additionally, some parts of the dish were completely burnt, as you can see in the picture. Moreover, the prices are higher than those of other Persian restaurants in the area, and I can't quite understand why, since the food was just average and not particularly impressive.

This restaurant is exceptional for dining. The food is outstanding, and the service is attentive and precise. It's a bit on the pricey side, but definitely worth every cent.

The food was delicious, and I really appreciate that they offer both vegetarian and vegan options.

For years I have traveled the country full time in an RV. We have eaten some amazing food in our travels but this place is one of our favorites in the whole country. We will detour by 3 4 hours to make sure we eat at Amoo 's. I 'm always worried that it won 't live up to my memory but they never disappoint. I 'd like to offer menu suggestions for Persian food novices. Number one, ask your waiter for suggestions. I 've never been disappointed by their suggestions and the workers here treat you like family. These portions come with plenty of food and we usually order for the table and share. Menu suggestions for novices: pita bread and hummus. It 's good hummus. Try any of their other dips. Tahdig mihicheh this is a pan crisped rice with a lamb shank that is seasoned and cooked to utter perfection. This dish is magical. Even if you 're not a lamb lover give this a go. Koobideh the menu says this is ground beef but it is SO much more! This is a long kabob of the most tender, flavorful meatball you 've ever had. Lamb soltani you get the koobideh kabob and a lamb kabob with this plating. If you like lamb, give it a try. saffron chicken this is a nice subtle flavored kabob of chicken, this is the least adventurous option for shy American pallettes but still very good. Shirin polo if you feel adventurous, upgrade your rice to this fancy rice drink: Doogh this is a savoury yogurt drink that you have to try at least once in your life. I 've tried several around the country now and I like Amoo 's best. Many people love the Saffron tea haven 't tried it because I don 't do black tea but if Doogh isn 't your thing try this. dessert: GET THE SAFFRON ICE CREAM!!! Life changing. We have asked to ship it across the country and they said sure, we get that request more than you would expect . If you don 't like anything after you try these menu suggestions you don 't like Persian food. And I am sad for you.

Super friendly staff and the food is at the point. If you want traditional Persian flavors and dishes, this is the place. There are other Persian restaurants in North Virginia that have good quality food, but Amoo's has carved their own place. The prices are definitely reasonable. I took my fiancée on her birthday (it's her favorite restaurant and she's not even Iranian) and my bill was $45. My only complaint is that the restaurant is not big enough to accommodate guests all the time, but this is a good problem to have.

Persian organic feasts!! This is really one of the best restaurants I've ever been in my life. Chef Sebastian and his family are so warm and feel like a part of the family. From the moment you enter this small jewel of a restaurant, your senses will be with all the beautiful colors of artwork on the walls, the cheerful atmosphere and of course the AROMA, oh my goodness! Saffron and exotic spices leave your mouth water until the dishes arrive. I tried to add EVERY SINGLE THING on the menu (the boss Sebastian keeps savory seasonal dishes) and I am addicted to ALL the food. Everything! The meats are divine and melt in your mouth, from fish to beef, chicken, lamb and goat dishes. The wonderful appetizers with all fresh ingredients bring you to the splendour of Persian cuisine with Chef Sebastian's own personal, ingenious flair. Do not forge to order dessert that you possess when you return for more. I can't go enough about this place, my friends and I are at least twice a week and we love, love, love the food and soul joy atmosphere.
