Fried And Toasted - McKerrow
Fried And Toasted
Description
Tucked near the outlets, this casual chip shop earns praise for towering, flavorful poutines, hefty homemade burgers and thick, crisp fries, plus warm, hands-on service that welcomes families and dogs. Specialty sandwiches and quick counter service impress many diners. However, experiences vary: some mention soggy fries, scant toppings, bland frozen items, small portions for the price and a recent health-department closure that raised concerns. Worth trying for signature poutine and friendly hospitality, but expect occasional inconsistencies.

I visited FAT at the Outlets today and was thoroughly impressed by the friendly service and the quality overall. But the highlight was definitely the food! They serve the best Philly Cheesesteak sandwich I’ve ever had. And if you’re in the mood for poutine, theirs is enormous and absolutely delicious! I’m officially a FATHead now and will definitely be coming back soon! A special thanks to Tom and Sherry (I believe those were their names), the owners of FAT; their pride in their restaurant really shows.
The food is often either undercooked or overcooked, but it’s consistently well-presented and usually tastes great. It’s truly a hidden gem.
The poutine I had lacked cheese, and the fries were almost like mashed potatoes. The chicken nuggets were just standard frozen ones, dry and lacking flavor. Overall, it was quite disappointing. I might give it another chance when the season gets busier, hoping the quality and attention to detail improve.
This chip shop is open year-round, but I was disappointed with my experience. The prices are quite high, and the portions were small; I didn't feel it was worth the over $70 we spent for two adults and two kids. Additionally, I learned that they had recently been shut down by the health department, and the owner was publicly threatening to sue them on social media, which raises concerns. Overall, I wasn’t impressed.
