Cracker Barrel - McAllen
Cracker Barrel
Description
Cracker Barrel offers a charming atmosphere with delightful decorations, making it a pleasant space for family dining. While some dishes, like grilled chicken and loaded hashbrowns, received praise for flavor and quality, others fell short, with complaints about stale sides and chewy fried shrimp. The Thanksgiving pre-order service was efficient and praised for its value. Amidst some noise and a crowded environment, friendly service stood out. Overall, Cracker Barrel showcases potential with its menu; however, consistency in food quality and portion sizes could enhance the dining experience significantly. A visit is recommended, but with caution.

The coleslaw at this restaurant was lacking in quantity and quality, with just a few teaspoons in the cup that was old, soggy, and runny. It seemed like they had run out and just scraped the bottom. Additionally, the cake was so hard that my daughter thought she chipped a tooth on it. We initially thought there might have been a foreign object in the cake, but it was just extremely stale. It felt like everything we ordered was old and stale, including the mashed potatoes which were runny, cold, and tasted like they came from a box. We were extremely disappointed and won't be returning.
The grilled chicken breast is delicious. The side dish is good too, but the portion size was quite small - it seemed more like a kids' meal. Additionally, there were no utensils or salt and pepper provided.
The place lovely inside, really wonderful decorations everywhere you look. I love feel of this place from the moment you walk outside to the moment you get inside. The sampler food was very tasty, really good portions of food for just 8.99, my eggs were cooked perfectly over medium, my ham and bacon were good, the sausage here had a taste i didn't quite like. The coffee was hot and flavorful. The staff was friendly and courteous. Overall an amazing place to bring your family and have breakfast, i wish they made home made salsa, i would come here more often if they did.
The ham had a bad odor and the bacon and egg sides I ordered with the Momma's Pancake breakfast were not included.
As someone who has never been to cracker barrel, I can honestly say this place was pretty good and exceeded my expectations. To start off they told me there was a 30 min wait which ended up being not even 5 min. Our waiter was super nice and helpful. We ordered the loaded hashbrown which were excellent, super crispy on top and nice buttery soft inside. We went on a Friday so the fish fry was an absolute must and I 100% recommend. The burger was alright, but the steak was just perfect. All in all it wasn't as expensive as we thought it would be. Only about 60$ for four people. Overall, I do recommend.
