Nestled in a corner of Mathis, Texas, Butter's BBQ delivers a unique dining experience with standout smoked meats and a cozy atmosphere, renowned for its brisket and ribs. While many patrons rave about the quality and flavor—elevating it to top-tier barbecue status—others express concern over the high prices and inconsistent sides. The establishment's minimalist setup, including a screened porch and limited seating, has drawn criticism, alongside occasional service hiccups. Was Vonda Krauser at Butter's Bbq a mag?
This was my first visit to this restaurant. The food was excellent, especially the extra marble brisket which was very satisfying. The corn was also better than what I've had in the past. The prices were a bit higher than I anticipated, but the staff was very polite. View all feedback.

What MenuPix User dislikes about Butter's Bbq:
I ordered two plates, one with brisket meat and two sides, without drinks because I couldn't afford it as my bill was $35! This high price was due to the lack of drinks and dessert, and the sides were also disappointing. The potato salad had no flavor, the beans were overly salty with a strong vinegar taste, and the rice was overly seasoned with cumin. The restaurant lacked a cool seating area, only offering a screen... View all feedback.

There was no jalapeño sausage available, and they did not have Dr. Pepper in cans or bottles. The older gentleman working there seemed to be in a bad mood and was rushing customers to order their food. The floors were in need of a good cleaning, and the tables and benches were sticky.

I had high expectations for this restaurant because it was featured in Texas Monthly. The customer service was good and the store was clean. However, I was disappointed with the food. It lacked any smoky flavor or seasonings, and the potato salad was bland. While the meat was tender, it too was lacking in flavor.

Holy Smokes ! Butter's Bbq is Amazing. We had such a feast . Tried the Pork Belly and it just melted in our mouths. Brisket was pure perfection. Pork ribs are very tasty. Tater tot casserole was scrumptious. Banana pudding is a must try too. Free cooler of beer on Saturday's. We cannot wait to go back !

Stopped for a late lunch while passing through. Like most Texas bbq places once they run out, they are out. They were out of a few things, but still had plenty to order. Only thing I wanted that I missed was the jalapeño sausage. Guy next to me got the last link!I ordered the lean brisket plate. Comes with two sides. A lot of time lean brisket is dry or stringy. Theirs was good. Still juicy with a nice bark. I got some bbq sauce, but didn’t need it. I’m a firm believer good bbq does not need sauce. The sides I chose were elotes and brisket beans. The elotes were fantastic. Full of flavor. Highly recommend trying it. The brisket beans were good, but not flavorful. Tasted like it was only beans and brisket. Made me think of what I call weekday beans. No other seasoning or aromatics. Again, they were good, just lacking. They give you pickles and pickled onions. Not sure if they are house made, but they were great. I would buy jars of these if they sold them. The only thing I can say negatively is the lack of sweet tea. They only had unsweetened which is blasphemy in Texas. Best place in town for a meal.
