Pizzeria Da Peppone - MATERA

This is a lovely place that can appear a little intimidating on first appearance. We only stopped to have a snack and drink but the pizza was delicious. Service was a quick and friendly.

This place is about a 10 minute drive from old town section of Matera on SS7. It 's worth it! We went in to eat about 8:30 at night, no one was in there except our family of 6. We ordered and ate this unbelievable appetizer, on the receipt it 's called Antipasto Misto Terra. It was pricey at 60 euros, but it was worth it, meats, cheese, tomatoes, bread, beans, olives all high quality, all fresh, and massive abundance of food. The waiter was funny and talkative, by the time we got to our first course it was about 9:15 and this place went from empty to completely full! It seems this is a reception type place as well as a regular restaurant. The pasta with crustaceans was so delish, the steak, the homemade pasta, all the sauces on the various dishes were so tasty! I do think I had a different fish than what I ordered. I ordered roasted swordfish, what I got was not roasted, or swordfish, but it was great fish all the same! Plus, by this time the place was packed with a reception party and we had a lot less attention from our waiter. This place is classy. This place is where real Italians go for a reception, what more do you need to know? Six of us, with two bottles of wine, three hour dinner with dessert came to 208 euro. Excellent value.

We returned here twice out of the 3 nights we had in Matera. Very reasonable prices, delicious food and good service. The decor is interesting feels like a wedding or conference centre venue, but we sat on the balcony on our second night which had a nicer feel, overlooking the countryside. We usually like to try different dishes and places but we returned for the exact dishes again which we highly recommend. They do REALLY good pizza!! The below dishes we recommend: prosciutto and rocket pizza Pasta with cockles Margherita pizza We had tried restaurant 900 in the main town but thought it was way overpriced, and only average food, we left feeling hungry.

Wow, came in hungry was fed like I was in mamma 's kitchen. They made sure I did not miss any of their home made dish. It was delicious. I rolled myself back to the car! Will come back for more! We had a fish based dinner if you love fish...then you 'll love it.
