A tip for visitors: do your major grocery shopping in Whangarei and only rely on The Matapouri Store for the essentials. While they do have a good selection of basics (great for a bit of baking), you will end up paying a bit more for the convenience of having them close by. You can also find fresh dairy products and sometimes locally grown fruits and vegetables. The Matapouri Store seems to be constantly improving it... View all feedback.

I took it back to Matapouri Dairy and was informed that it was actually tropical Indonesian snapper. The staff was very rude and it is misleading to sell a different type of fish labeled as snapper. This needs to be addressed and brought to the attention of customers and the New Zealand public. What exactly is tropical Indonesian snapper? Shame on you, Matapouri Dairy.

I can envision bringing my own children here one day.
