Matapouri Bay Store blends a tiny general store with a seaside takeaway: fresh snapper and crispy chips draw beachgoers and locals, alongside ice cream, cold drinks and groceries. Service is often friendly and the food can be excellent, but expect slow waits at peak times, occasional missing items, inconsistent chip quality and rare hygiene or etiquette lapses. Delicious fish and chips! Unfortunately took 1 hour 40 mins to get them... They were busy! I would have rather known if there was a wait that long, maybe an opportunity to suss a system so the times are better known. They were kind and working hard though, thanks for being open new years day!
Awesome spot, vibez are ON fr! Either the oil wasn’t hot enough or didn’t cook food for long enough! Would go again though!
We popped in for an ice cream and cup of tea (teabag left in! and were treated to very friendly and hospitable service. The staff were chatty and shared stories of their links to the UK. Even a local joined in and made us feel welcome to the area. The ice cream was excellent value for money. My Dad speaks highly of the fish and chips too!
Awesome ice cream stop (general store), haven’t tried the fish chips. Awesome friendly young lady staffer doing the ice creams was all good. Cool tables outside but pretty close to the road, lots of goons showing off to the cows sheep cause there ain’t much else up here to try to look cool in front of! Mind the tamariki, Awesome little store 3rd time here this year, happy. Easy parking, accessible, main road can’t miss it.
