There was a market happening in town that day and when I asked where one could get a good cinnamon bun, everyone responded Moon Over Naikoon. Not a far drive from town and well worthwhile stop. LOVED the gals, the bus atmosphere and décor, warm and cosy, very local feel and too many choices from tasty soups to muffins to lunch items. All I wanted was a cinnamon bun and coffee and it did not disappoint. My only regret... View all feedback.
What Nancy Michel doesn't like about Moon Over Naikoon:
Neat history. Earnest young girl trying to keep the business going. Some of the baked goods were "good" but the cinnamon buns everyone raves about: they were white (OK, light beige) and slathered with white icing that didn't adhere to the bun underneath. Despite their being white, they were adequately cooked but quite dense and chewy - not a more porous brioche consistency. Parking might be a problem as this bus is s... View all feedback.
Moon Over Naikoon is a fun, off-the-beaten-path bakery housed in a psychedelic bus in between Masset and Tow Hill. If you’re not on the lookout for it, it can be pretty easy to miss (just a small sign on the road, which was being overtaken by bushes when we were driving by. . .in fact, we had to loop back around). This little bakery is a good place to stop en route to the provincial park because, as you might expect, there are no eateries further on down the road. All items are baked fresh daily. On our stop, we grabbed a few baked goods and some cookies (would’ve grabbed some pizza, but they weren’t ready yet). The chocolate chip shortbread cookies were excellent, as was the mini banana loaf. For those not in a rush, and wishing to stick around, there is limited seating available both outside and inside the bus. Personally, I loved the décor of the bus – felt warm and cozy, not cramped like one might expect.FOOD: 4/5SERVICE: 5/5VALUE: 4.5/5RECOMMENDATION: The Moon Over Naikoon bakery bus is very much a physical embodiment of its surroundings. Just as the lush forests of Haida Gwaii house diverse flora and fauna, this little bakery offers a plethora of baked goods and lunch items – much more than one would expect given its compact size. It is ideal for those “on the go” and I think you’d be foolish to pass this one up!
You have to stop here on your way to North Beach. This is one of my favourite places to see when visiting the area. It is so cool to see this unique Coffee house out in the middle of no-where (so it seems) It is always packed. The baked goodies are delicious. try the cinnamon buns. they also offer some lunch items. They have some seating inside the bus and outside.
Cinnamon buns were super fresh and tasty. They have other yummy desserts but did not try. Stopped here after staying in North Beach.
Moon Over Naikoon is situated in a converted school bus off the road between Masset and Tow Hill. It's easy to miss so watch for the sandwich board beside the highway.Coffee and pastries are stellar. The reputation is that their cinnamon buns are the best in the world. I wouldn't go that far but they are good. NB The photo is out of date. The building is gone. Now it's just the psychedelically painted bus.
