Outside, however, it is nice: we had a fish starter that was in order in all fairness. main courts: duck and lamb. the duck was rotten and the lamb was definitiw too old. the employees don't speak English and explain above...Don't go too well. so we paid and left before dessert was served. avoid this place. terrible.

The fish dishes are very good, tasty and the portions are reasonable. The prices are high. But champaigne is not chilled enough, and the waitress spilled...some when opening. Not bad but has got a way to grow up.

We had chosen the Victor Cafe because of good reviews and because... read more We had booked well in advance of our trip to Marseille for the special New Year's Eve dinner. We had chosen the Victor Cafe because of good reviews and because it was close too where we were staying. We had looked at other restaurants NYE...menus this one seemed fine. When we arrived, we were surprised that so little effort had been made to give the restaurant a festive atmosphere, and at 9 pm, many diners were well into their meals.There was no welcoming aperitif included and we paid for 1 kir and 1 cocktail which turned out to be expensive, as was the wine. The food was not up to our expectations of a special NYE dinner and and it was a lot less exciting than the menu suggested The wine cooler bucket collapsed I managed to grab it stop the wine bottle tipping out but I got a lot of iced water over my trousers, boots handbag. The waitress apologised, but I would have expected perhaps a complimentary drink or discount. The staff seemed anxious to hurry us through our meal, and were busy clearing tables by 11 pm. We left by 11.30 pm to find somewhere more convivial to see the New Year in.
