Definitely highly recommend a visit to Chez Madie Les Galinettes for some homemade Bouillabaisse. It is so well done by this restaurant that you should consider heading there, in our view, rather than some of the other spots along the Vieux Port if you're interested in this sort of local fare. Service is very good. Atmosphere outside a deilght. Enjoy! View all feedback.
What Leslie W doesn't like about Maddie Les Galinettes:
What a Huge Disappointment! I have been anticipating for weeks an excellent Marseilles Bouillabaisse! We trust Rick Steves's recommendations for everything. This was his top recommendation for Bouillabaisse. TERRIBLE! Their recipe is NOT classic, traditional recipe as I have researched and eaten before! AND 55 euros person. What a rip-off! NEVER GO THERE. Attitude of servers: Blah. I have written Rick to tell him to... View all feedback.
Wow! What an absolute gem! The wait staff were very friendly, gave us amazing recommendations to try as our first taste of Marseille dishes. The Soupe de poissons de roche just blew me away. Apparently there is a method of preparing the toasted bread to be dipped into the soup and they walked me through it. Absolutely incredible!!

One of my favorite spots in Marseille for the tartares and fish. Great view on the vieux port and Norte Dame.
This harbor front dining room opens to the street with the harbor just across the road. This is typical for the harborside seafood restaurants of this area. Chez Maddie’s dining room, while graced with white tablecloths, has a casual air. Both the staff and the patrons were dressed casually. Patrons seemed to be more French locals than international tourists. The bouillabaisse, while priced like an exceptional dish, was served without much fuss. No presentation of fresh fish before the service. The first course, the fish broth, was everything it should be with a rich depth of flavor and not too salty served with toast, a fresh garlic clove to grate on the toast, aioli, and a small bowl of cheese. The fish course, served after a proper delay, was a simple plate of the various fish perfectly cooked served with potatoes that border on overcooked. Again, the fish was everything it should be without fuss or finicky presentation.
