Along the old harbor are many nice restaurants and this is one of them. There is inside (closed of terrace) and real outside seating, both with the risk of second hand smoke. Service is friendly and efficient. The menu has many choices, the Cesar salad and calamari both were good. Prices are at the expected level of such a place. View all feedback.
What Lori P doesn't like about AU Doyen:
Came here for lunch around 2pm and it wasn’t super crowded. We asked for a seat in the shade and were RUDELY informed that all the seats except those in the hot sun were reserved. Really? And honestly it had more to do with how he said it than what he said. Was it because we were Americans? In any case, do yourself a favor and go nextdoor to La Piscine where the fish is fresh and delicious and they appreciate your bu... View all feedback.
A nice little café in the old port of Marseille, with shaded outdoor seating looking out over the myriad of boats crammed into the port. Great for coffee/beer/soft drinks. Good service.
... and to go when you are looking for a good place to eat on the harbor front. The boss very involved made sure that our family of 5 was well seated and that our young son of 5 would enjoy his lunch. Both food and service were excellent and the price totally reasonable. We enjoyed particularly the seafood and the French fries which were amazing. We realized that there were many usual guests and some were very typical drinking their wine in the sun behind their shades. We had a great lunch!
Nice fish soup, very friendly personnel, excellent (local) wine. Too bad they don't serve dinner: we probably would have gone again!
A few years after our last stop by, Au Doyen is still great and good, a good alchemy between relax but professional atmosphere. See you next time ;)
Bouillabaisse, fish soup, fisherman's stew, it doesn't matter what you call it but my wife wanted to understand the dish that turned Julia Child into a cook. Order it, and for goodness sake google how to eat it before digging in. It's a complex procedure, but worth it. The one we had here was more than enough food (neither of us finished) and plent yummy.
