Very nice meal in Margate: really enjoyed the cooking, especially the fresh fish dishes. Pork belly was great (if enormous) and the chicken starter also a success. The only downside was that we didn't have room for desserts. Two very minor things: don't put the real ale in a cold fridge; and maybe a decor update would help the restaurant match the quality of the food. But overall a hearty recommendation for anyone go... What OpenTable Diner doesn't like about The Ambrette At Margate:
Food was not great. Very strange combinations that at times did not work. We are fans of indian fusion food and had high expectations but were let down by the Ambrette. Building also is tatty and décor inside is a mish mash with no ambience. Staff were not attentive and on one occasion very rude. If you want fantastic indian fusion food try the cinnamon club kitchen! View all feedback.
Whoever thought that mixing a classic roast dinner with an Indian takeaway had a good idea clearly missed the mark. Who wants a curried roast? It was terrible—too spicy, the meat was undercooked, and it made my wife sick. It completely ruined our day!
The restaurant offers intriguing flavor combinations that blend the finest British ingredients with exotic spices. The dishes are beautifully presented and reasonably priced.
We have enjoyed Sunday lunch here three times now, and each time, we have been impressed by the quality of the food. The only area for improvement would be the decor; while it is very clean, it lacks a certain ambience. Nevertheless, this wouldn't deter me from making a reservation or recommending the place.

My partner and I visited the Ambrette for lunch on a Saturday day trip to Margate. Both of us (he is vegetarian) were thrilled by the imaginative Indian-fusion dishes on offer. The spicing was subtle and the combinations of ingredients unusual and delicious. The very reasonably priced set lunch menu was supplemented by a pre-starter and an espresso cup of soup between starter and main course. We enjoyed a bottle of delicious Soave with our meal and the serving staff were attentive without being overbearing.
