A classy but unpretentious restaurant with courteous and very efficient service. Each dish was a 4 or 5. Grilled tuna was 2 thick and the best I 've had. Salmon special was excellent. Seafood oriented but also other protein and vegetarian option. Chef is creative but not contrived. Kids and adults all cleared our plates. $140 including 20% tip for 3 entrees, 3 apps, 1 kid meal, no booze. Not for every day dining but... View all feedback.
What MC Meiners doesn't like about 1587:
One of the reasons that we choose to eat here was for the vegetarian/vegan options. My mother is vegan for allergy issues but can eat fish. The only fish on the menu was tuna (which she doesn't like and would not be local) and no vegan options but salad. She ordered the salad and the rest of us loved our food. But later that night , I saw a specials menu for that night had been posted on Instagram. With a Mahi Mahi s... View all feedback.
A stylish but unpretentious restaurant with friendly and very efficient service. Each court was a 4 or 5. Grilled tuna was 2 thick and the best I had. Salmon Special was excellent. Seafood oriented, but also other protein and vegetarian option. Chef is creative, but not constricted. Children and adults cleaned our plates. $140 including 20% tip for 3 entrees, 3 apps, 1 child meal, no alcohol. Not for every day food, but definitely worth a value for the quality and experience and a ride from OBX. Thanks to Megan at 1587. Note: The restaurant is located in the Tranquil House Inn and is not signed separately. Don't do as I did, look around the goofy geocache, just go in front or back at the Inn.
We stopped in last week for a drink or two last week. Tammy provided fantastic service and was very knowledgeable of the drinks. She made the Lavender Martini for me (her first time making it) and it was SO GOOD. They have a rotating menu that is created by the bartenders but they are able to create any drink that you would like. Next time I'm the in the area, we are definitely staying at this Inn.

But later that night , I saw a specials menu for that night had been posted on Instagram. With a Mahi Mahi special, which she might have been able to eat with a few adjustments. There was also a drink special, a watermelon mojito, that I would have enjoyed if I had known about it. The waitress did not tell us about the specials at all. If we had known about them, our family dinner would have been much more enjoyable for all of us. Very disappointing.
Chef Eric doesn't disappoint. It was our favorite meal on our trip. The staff were so thoughtful, prompt and totally all hands on deck. What a delightful evening. Thank you 1587 Restaurant and Lounge.
Absolute hidden gem of OBX, only a quick ride from the main strip. Nestled in a quaint Inn, this was the best experience we had on the entire island. The food was extremely fresh and well-presented. The drinks were also properly curated, clearly the sign of someone who is a master at their job. The true locals seem to have a home here too. Just the place we were looking for.
