Description

Nestled alongside Sydney Harbour, The Bistro at Manly Pavilion boasts exquisite views and a charming ambiance, appealing to both casual diners and those celebrating special occasions. However, recent experiences highlight inconsistencies in food quality and service. While some guests praise the attentive staff and delightful cocktails, others criticize the slow service and overpriced, underwhelming dishes. The challenges of a limited wine selection and additional fees for cake and payment methods have further dampened the dining experience. Despite these drawbacks, the venue remains a lovely spot for brunch, particularly for memorable events, as many have praised its joyful atmosphere and culinary offerings.

Additionally, the starters arrived after the main course, all of them piled onto our small table at once, and the waitress didn’t offer any assistance with the cramped space. She explained that this can happen when dining on the terrace because they can’t manage the timing of dishes properly in that area. She seemed uninterested in my complaints. If you choose to sit on the terrace, make sure to order your bread and sides first; don’t mention your main dishes until you’ve finished the starters. Otherwise, like my friend who wanted a half chicken for $43, you might miss out on your first choice. Be aware of the 15% surcharge on public holidays, along with a 1.7% fee for credit card payments. Our table’s barcode didn’t work even after several attempts to order from different phones; staff informed us that main meals had to be ordered at the bar. Apparently, you can only order starters using the bar code. It felt rather bizarre, and wasted another 20 minutes of our time. The cocktails were small and priced around $18 to $20, which was expected. My friend wanted to take home some dip, but we waited so long for a container that we were concerned about our two-hour street parking running out, all while trying to get drinks, food, and the bill—as expected, all at the bar. If you decide to dine here, I recommend making a reservation in the restaurant ahead of time or sitting on the terrace and just ordering some share plates. The highlight of our visit was the view. Our total bill was over $230 for two people which included two alcoholic drinks, one mocktail, bread with two dips, one side of broccoli, and two small servings of Snapper, both with bones and only a few mussels. The silverbeet was bland and lacked seasoning. The table next to us requested salt, and a diner had to go get a shaker from inside because there were no waitstaff available to assist. Another gentleman was also waving to get a waitress to refill his empty salt shaker. There seems to be a clear need for better seasoning, larger portions, and more staff. Lastly, it would be great if starters could be served before mains for guests dining on the terrace too. Nicole

**Wheelchair accessibility:** If you're in a wheelchair, I suggest avoiding the stairs!

The food was delicious, but the portion sizes were quite small for the price! The cocktails were tasty as well, though I'd only be willing to pay the happy hour prices for them. However, the beautiful venue and great atmosphere really make up for the drawbacks! Overall ratings: Food: 3, Service: 3, Atmosphere: 5.
