What Hotel Critic doesn't like about Big Spring Tavern:
Big spring was a BIG JOKE! Visited there in August 2023 for dinner after the Palms Book adventure. Waited an hour to get food and they weren't that busy, they may have had to kill a cow to make a simple burger. The waitresses need to practice better mannerisms and common sense when serving to the public, as not to deliberately have customers wait an unnecessarily long time to get our food, hate to be on lunch break a... Stopped after viewing Kitch-Iti-Kipi. Very friendly atmosphere.
We visited for dinner on a Thursday in August. We visited the spring first and ate around 6pm. There were only a few tables occupied at the time. We sat outside under a pergola. Most of the seating is inside. They have several TVs for sports games and news. They had several good local beers on tap. The bathrooms were very clean. We ordered two kids chicken fingers, a chicken club and chipotle chicken tacos. The food was fantastic. We got sweet potato fries with a sweet maple dip and Parmesan garlic fries with a spicy aoli. The service was very good and fast. I think we were in and out in less than an hour. I loved the cute cottage decor. There's plenty of parking for busy days. Wheelchair accessibility: There's a wheel chair ramp to the front door. There are no booths, only tables with chairs spread out.
The food was good and reasonabley priced. The waitress was very friendly and took time to ask us where we are from and gave us some advice about the area. The venue is spacious, and leading edge. They have a great selection of MI craft beers. There's a big screen TV dedicated to information about the beers on tap with brewery location and info about the taste and content of the beer. Overall great place to visit while your siteseeing in the MI UP.
We went there so we could sit outside on the patio with our dogs. We had literally just been seated when a guy comes right next to us mowing the grass and stirring up a swarm of mosquitoes. VERY inconsiderate! We had to put the dogs in the car and go inside to eat. As for the food, we ordered the fish tacos and steak loaded nachos, both of which were MEH at best. The *loaded* nachos were very underwhelming. VERY little meat. Mainly lettuce, onions and cheese SAUCE on the chips. The cheese sauce was too much. You would expect shredded cheese on true nachos. And they should inform on the menu that it 's cheese sauce and not the shredded cheese you 'd expect. You would also expect black olives. You have to ask for Jalapeños, but at least they don 't charge extra. Our server was the only good thing about our visit.
