Somehow, this old town has survived the massive renovation in this area of the North Quarter. It is a bit ashamed and needs a sympathetic refurbishment, but it is an oasis for real ale and big cedar. A vimto flavors 7.5%! Has a friendly atmosphere and worth a visit. View all feedback.

Very disappointed. This pub has lost it's former glory. Hardly anyone in on a Saturday lunchtime. Maybe because, it's freezing cold, no food, not even crisps. The food here was legendary. We have often included The Angel in our real ale days out in Manchester but hadn't been for several years until the weekend just gone. Oh what a disappointment!! I have never known a pub to have gone so downhill before. Dark, dirty and dismal springs to mind, and that was just the decor! 12 handpulls on the bar but only 4 in action and a pretty poor choice. Filthy glasses, short measures (yes I know I should have asked for a top up but we'd already decided to drink up and get out by then). Lager served in a straight beer glass. The guy behind the bar looked like it was an inconvenience for him to have been there. Needs a massive amount of work to get it back to it's former glory!!
I have noticed a decline in quality since my last visit to this restaurant. The beer selection is poor and limited, and the beer garden is disappointing. The outdoor furniture is in disrepair and poses a safety hazard. I will not be returning anytime soon.
