I was staying at the hotel and was tired so decided just to eat there, mistake. I ordered the bread with oils to start. Two small pieces of white crusty bread with one small pot of oil. £4!!!! Eh? My main was the lamb hot pot. Portion was small although the food did taste good. The lamb chop was very fatty. The hot pot was very good and pastry perfect. Service was extremely poor. My mum and dad stayed here after our daughter wedding and gave it a glowing report said breakfast was lovely. So when we were thinking of eating out on Christmas day with thought of Etrop Grange. On the surface it looked really nice even though we had the only table without a center decoration, the starters were lovely except the ones intended to be hot were only warm, 9 of the 11 main courses we also not hot, 2 arrived about 5 minutes later both of those were nice and hot. We asked for cranberry sauce it arrived when most meals were finished. A few other niggles which added to the disappointment The hotel is a little shabby in parts but nice and homely and welcoming. We emailed the general manager our feedback which resulted in a rather abrupt reply with a few rather personal insulting comments. When paying the bar bill which was incorrect and had to be amended, I witnessed and chatted to 2 other parties complaining about the same thing all were corrected but sadly with apologies. I only usually add positive reviews but unfortunately the general managers attitude to feedback made me change my mind. Back to Xmas dinner at home for us!!
Superb and delightful. Not only did I have my engagement here, I also got married at this venue and it was fabulous. Just a quick tip the layout of the roads leading up to the Etrop have been amended and it requires a couple of extra minutes to navigate. Have a lovely time.
Waitress kept telling everyone she was working herself, not our issue. Another diner got the wrong item brought out. No real apology and the other person left to eat alone while the correct dish was prepared. No offer of discount or free meal, not even a free drink offered. Very poor. If I ever stay here again I would make the effort to go out for food, even if tired.
Booked after tea with a glass of prosecco four four people. Food was delicious and the tea and processo were excellent. The conservatory was rather chilly and looked very tired....blinds, carpets, table clothes. We walked through a small area with comfortable seating, coffee tables and a fireplace with a living gas fire. We ordered more prosecco and coffees and asked could we move out of the conservatory and asked could the fire be switched on. We were told that the fire could not be turned on, as it had been condemned. Not what we expected, it would not encourage me to stay at Etrop Grange. What else might be condemed? I suggest that this establishment is certainly missing an opportunity by not being able to make the best of this area, especially as winter is upon us,
Upon entering the restaurant my Wife and I were greeted by very friendly and helpful staff, we were feeling quite hungry so ordered a meat and a fish sharer which were very good, washed down with a chilled jug of tap water and a nice bottle of Australian Shiraz.
