The food was fantastic! Although the service was a bit busy, they managed it well. We were seated at a large table, which meant that two other people shared our space. We ended up meeting two really nice guys and enjoyed a wonderful breakfast together. View all feedback.
We enjoyed the delicious breakfast we ate here at Shirley’s. This is our first time eating here since the new owners took over. It was great food, and we will be back!
Definitely the best breakfast/lunch between gaylord and kalkaska! My family goes there every Sunday and it's always the best experience with the nicest staff! 10 our of 10!!
Stopped in on our way back from east jordan to St. Joe Michigan and loved the food. Very fast and polite staff. Definitely recommend
Stopped into this cute little diner on the way home from Mackinac City. Found them on Google lol Their food and service were AMAZING!! Hands down one of the best chicken quesadillas I've ever hadMy husband and I will for sure be stopping by the next time we come through!
Most desserts also appear to be frozen and prepackaged, including the crusts, fruits, and dry ingredients. Even the sauces seem to come in powdered mixes that are simply combined with water and sausage. After reading the mission statement, I was disappointed to find that Shirley has not been adhering to it. She has the opportunity to work with 100% fresh and natural ingredients, but seems to lack trust in her staff and herself. While she has brought in various people to address these issues, the existing employees either find ways to resist change or prefer to stick to the same routines they've had for the five years since the restaurant opened. I don't feel any obligation to return; the cleanliness of the kitchen is questionable, and the staff’s lack of knowledge is concerning. When the head cook serves undercooked food, it makes dining there unappetizing. In my opinion, the meals are dry, lacking flavor, and fail to demonstrate the care and professionalism expected in any kitchen. If you enjoy greasy spoon-style diners with limited taste and a homely flair, this place might work for you. Otherwise, I recommend saving your money, driving a bit further, and seeking out establishments that truly offer homemade food made with genuine care and skill.
